Springtime is my favorite time of year. Its new beginnings, fresh starts, sunshine, love, and smiles. Birds gather to share their goals for the next few months while teaching their young the skills they need to move out. The air is cool, and the sun’s heat peaks at a mere 75°. You can hear the sound of wind chimes playing music through the trees.
The smell of freshly cut grass permeates through the air and with every breath in you can feel it fill your lungs bringing back memories of childhood. The weight of my body folds the grass beneath my feet leaving behind footprints as I make my way through the lush grass to the hammock between the two arbor trees. And as I lay back to rest my head the sun sprinkles a twinkle of light upon me, just enough to make me want to fall asleep. The sound of water running from the manmade fall brings quiet peace. I watch the squirrels taunt the dogs and cats of the neighborhood as I brush the hair from my eyes caused by the small breeze that just passed. I can hear sprinklers, sst, sst, sst, refreshing lawns with a cool drink, while mowers and edgers are all a buzz.
Wildflowers fill my view with vibrant colors as the buzzing sound of bees are busy pollinating the world with their effortless movement from bud to bud. Nearby I can hear the rapid flapping of hummingbirds as they drink the nectar I left. Off in the distance, the sound of children’s laughter draws near as they pass by on their bikes with a playing card pinned to the spokes making that wonderful sound of a fake motor.
I cover my legs with a throw blanket I find at my feet and grab my journal. Being outdoors allows me to daydream and those daydreams allow beautiful stories to flow from me. Closing my eyes, I begin to dream, and my thoughts appear as words out of now where. I soon find a story has developed. I love writing and wish that I could capture all my thoughts.
The aroma of barbeque finds it way to my stomach and hunger strikes. I soon find my fingers deep in sauce and the tasty flesh of ribs between my teeth. I can feel the ice-cold beer moving through my body as it washes down the tasty meal my beautiful husband has created for me.
We finish our dinner, and my husband leans over to kiss me. I do not have to lift a finger because the man that loves me treats me like his queen. I have a fabulous life. He sends me to the hammock where I continue with my daydreams, however, I find myself falling into a deep slumber after the beautiful meal I have just eaten.
Shortly afterward I am awakened by the music coming from a neighbor’s yard. I roll over to find that my husband is curled up next to me. There is nothing better than taking a nap with the person you love. I grab the blanket and cover us both as I scan his beautiful face and watch him sleep. I love this time of year when everything wakes. As the sun begins to fall and the moon shows its face, the solar lighting around my yard begins to slowly turn on creating an atmosphere of romance. I scoot off the hammock and go inside to grab a bottle of wine and two glasses. I love spending time alone or with the one I love in my cozy corner of the world. My backyard in the springtime is the only place I want to be.
