What’s your name and where are you from?

My Name is Sohnai and I’m from Fresno, California.

Why do you love what you do?

I love making music and performing it because I know that this is something I could enjoy for a really long time. I couldn’t imagine any other career path that I would want to do for the next 15 years of my life. I love that I can make a living by being creative, having fun, and being myself! It's also such a good feeling to see people enjoying and resonating with music that I am proud of creating. I always shoot for the moon, so I can appreciate the challenge of being successful in the music industry. I think you get out of it what you put into it and I’m really proud of my progress so far. I’m working hard to get my music and my name out there and I know the only way things won’t work out is if I give up.

What makes you different?

I think I am different in a number of ways. When I tell people that I write my music a’cappella first and then find a beat once the words are written, they are always surprised. I haven’t met another rapper that creates that way, so I know it’s rare. I do it that way because the words are more important to me. When I listen to music with people I always notice that I'm nodding my head at a different pace as if I pick up something different in the beat that stands out to me. I also think the music that I choose to create makes me different. I like to write music with a positive message because when I listen to it, it motivates me. So I hope to motivate others to be their best self since that is what I am striving for. My music is relatable to the everyday person across generations and my lyricism and flow is unique.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years I see myself as a very successful artist, touring and performing at festivals and convention centers where everyone knows my music. I’ll have full ownership of the music I’ve created and I’ll provide jobs for my loved ones through my business, 1 Percent Company LLC. I also see myself branching out into modeling and acting.

What do you want to accomplish in life?

I want to create a luxurious lifestyle and generational wealth for me and my family. My plan is to lead by example so that my family can see that following your dreams will make you the happiest and if they work hard, it can take care of them financially. If I could inspire one person to follow their dreams I’d be happy with that.

What do you bring to your industry?

I bring honesty to the music industry. I can’t be anyone other than myself so I would like to show people they don’t have to become a more “likable” version of themselves to be successful. I had a manager tell me I needed to appear single to my audience so I shouldn’t mention my relationship so much. I disagree, I think the people that decide to be fans of me for who I am, are the fans that I want.

What do you want to be remembered by?

I want to be remembered as someone who didn't make excuses. I get things done and I don’t care what others think of me because I know who I am.
