Let’s Stop Telling People “Looks Don’t Matter”

Because they do to the vast majority of people.

We’re told that inner beauty is what truly counts and that we should focus on being kind and intelligent rather than worrying about our physical appearance. While I agree, it won’t hurt if we put some effort into how we look. In fact, taking care of our appearance will benefit us because, believe it or not, looks matter.

They may not be the most important thing, but they certainly play a role in how we interact with the world. For example, when it comes to dating, studies have shown that people are more likely to be attracted to someone who is physically attractive. Similarly, when it comes to job interviews, people who are considered more attractive are often more likely to be hired.

In other words, people are often judged based on their appearance, whether it be in dating, job interviews, or other areas of life. And it would be wrong and unfair to tell them they shouldn’t put in the effort to look good just because of the saying “looks don’t matter.”

What We’re Doing is Setting People Up For Failure

Telling someone that looks don’t matter is like telling them that they shouldn’t take care of their physical appearance or well-being because it won’t make a difference in their life — which is completely untrue!

The truth is, attractive people are treated better in most aspects of life (sorry not sorry). They get better jobs, have more dating options, and get friends easily. Not to mention that if you take care of yourself, you’re more likely to be healthy and self-confident.

It may sound unfair, but it is what it is. And instead of feeling cheated by life, why not work on ourselves and strive to be more attractive too?

The Good News: Attractiveness Can Be Worked On

While some aspects like our genetics cannot be changed, we can still work on and improve our attractiveness.

I would like to stress that attractiveness is not only about physical appearance — it also includes confidence, attitude, and personality. And that working on our personality and attitude is just as important as working on our physical appearance.

Here are a few common examples:

Physical appearance

  • Good hygiene and grooming habits
  • Eating healthy and exercise
  • Skin and hair care

Personality and attitude

  • Positive attitude
  • Being friendly and helpful
  • Confidence
  • Good sense of humor

It doesn’t take much effort to improve our attractiveness. Even by just doing the bare minimum — like good hygiene and grooming — you can increase your level of attractiveness by a good amount.

If you were to ask me, probably the hardest part is finding the motivation to start putting in the effort and start unlearning the lie that we have been fed by others that looks don’t matter.

They do and we need to start working on ourselves if we want to improve our lives. Enough with the excuses and start working on yourself today.

Hi guys! I am sorry I’ve been out for a while. I’ve been busy with the AFA singles tours. We still have upcoming tours in Asia (The Philippines, Thailand, and China) and Latin America (Colombia, Peru, and Mexico). European tours are still uncertain at the moment with the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Moreover, I’m not sure if I’ll stay consistently active on Vocal Media, but I will try my best.
