We are living in a time where there are so many terrible things going on.

The pandemic is still going strong, there’s a war between Russia and Ukraine, and the United States still can’t figure out how to bring everyone together.

Why don’t we start doing something nice throughout the day to try and change someone else life?

If you think about it, everyone doing this means that someone is changing your day while you are changing someone else’s.

Doesn’t seem that hard but no one does it. We get busy with our own lives and everything else feel like it’s not going on anymore.

Here are some small changes we can make in our own lives to make the areas we live in a better place.

Be Polite

It brightens the mood when someone does something nice for you.

A small compliment, a nice gesture, just something that shows you are worth something. It doesn’t have to be big but it’s always memorable.

I think we all know about the epidemic of those not holding the door when they walk out of a building and it hitting you in the face as you walk behind them.

This goes beyond please and thank you but not by much.

Having good manners brightens everyone’s day. It shows that someone else was thinking about you.

I know I hate it when someone bumps me aside when walking past. By saying “excuse me” no one has to ruin the mood.

If you feel great after someone is polite to you, imagine how someone would feel if you were polite to them.

If you don’t see anyone doing the right thing, be that person. You may start a chain reaction. If someone sees you being polite, them might be reminded to do the same.

Do Something Nice Everyday

Everyone has bad days. Your boss was on you at work, it’s raining, and you can’t find your umbrella.

How do you feel when someone does something nice like share their umbrella with you?

Now you’re not standing in the rain, you won’t be sopping wet all day while at work, and your mood increases because your not thinking about being wet and miserable all day.

It’s one less thing we have to worry about and there’s too much worrying we can do in general.

No one knows what others are thinking throughout the day and most of us are not comfortable sharing our feelings publicly.

That’s why you never know how someone is feeling or how their day is going. One more reason to be good to others

Random acts of kindness make us happy as well. It’s the similar to Christmas. We all like receiving something but it’s also nice to give and see the joy on someone’s face.

Be Nice to Yourself

People get so wrapped up in their days they forget to appreciate themselves. This can lead to thinking badly about yourself and depression.

It doesn’t take much to cheer yourself up. Find a saying that speaks to you and recite it in the mirror every morning. This is a great way to start you day or decompress after a long one.

Stop and take a minute to realize what you have accomplished today. It could be a small as sending an email to someone you don’t get along with.

Whatever it is, acknowledge that you did something that was hard for you or nice for others.

If you aren’t getting the recognition, you believe you deserve, give it to yourself. Positive self-talk has its advantages.

Go to your favorite store and buy one thing you want. We all deserve to be happy and sometimes rewarding ourselves for a job well done is necessary.

Final Thoughts

It doesn’t take much individually to make a change for the better but collectively it can make a huge difference.

If we can go back to a time where manners mattered and we were more polite to others, the amount of hate in the world would decrease dramatically.

I’ve started doing something nice every day and I write it down to remind myself that I need to do it or that I have done it that day.

And when I do, I feel better about myself and reward myself for it from time to time.

If you want to change your day, start being nice to yourself, then to others, and then the world will start to become a better place.
