Just Do It!

I started a business with the will and very little money.

Go for it! Is probably the last thing anyone wants to hear when it comes to taking risk. Like who wants to hear take this really big risk that may or may not reap rewards. Unfortunately the best rewards in life come from taking risk. You probably did not want to hear that, but it’s true. It is the burning desire for it to work out that will drive you to make it work.

I’ll explain with a person example:

My dream job has always been and will always be to have/run my own business, that’s of course behind being a singer 😉. I realized at a very young age I hate being told what to do, when to do it and how to do it. (Funny side joke, my last name is Outlaw, people have constantly commented: “you are living up to your last name”). At 18 I joined the work force and it was just more confirmation that I needed to work for myself. The burning question was always how and what? I went to college for Business Administration and I also quickly realized, I still hate school and I was not in the right mental state to give college my all. I failed out and for a long time I felt like a failure. Between 18-26 I’ve had about 12 jobs, and I can honestly say only one of those jobs I completely a full year. I just couldn’t understand why we slaved for 8 hours, sometimes more to still struggle at the end of the week. We spend majority of our day working for someone else we don’t even get the time to think about what we would be able to do.

After I was let go from the Post Office I officially decided I would no longer work for anyone else. I was tired of being taken advantage of, and yes overworking and underpaying is definitely being taken advantage of. I needed a plan, I spent nights awake with my thoughts (one would call this meditation), looking for an idea but not just any idea. I needed a business with very little start up cost. Google and YouTube became my best friend. I soon realized I wish I had done this sooner. I found a way to start a business with a start up cost of about 350 USD.

I now had a plan, a means to put the plan in motion and the resources. I got to work, barely knowing anything, I can hardly remember anything I learned in my 2 years of college but I was determined to get it done and grow. I have to add I also just had to have my business open 11.11.2021 and it was the middle of September 😅. I spent hours and days researching marketing, marketing on social media, how to run ads, how to gain customers trust, you name it. I had doubts every step of the way, I wondered: did I just waste this money? And every time I would tell myself no, this is your dream and you will make it work. I did not give up because I knew even if not immediately, eventually having my own business would give me the life I’ve always imagined for myself.

It was this burning desire and dedication to my goals that helped me open my store (High-Landz.com) on my projected date. It is now 01/2022 and I’ve gotten 2 sales so far (I of course wish it was 200 or more) but I am not disappointed. I understand that there are steps to becoming a flourishing business and brand awareness/trust is probably the BIGGEST factor and only time gains trust.

I hope this story helps you understand that there will never be the right time. You will continue to push your dreams and goals aside until you wake up with the burning desire to see it through. And even with that burning desire, you will still have doubts, you may still talk yourself out of it (or someone else will try). Keep pushing forward and always keep your goal in the center of your heart.
