What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Jessica Reddy. I am from Baltimore, Maryland. I am now residing in Miami, Florida.
What makes you different?
What makes me different as a person is that I wear many hats. I’m a mother, a business owner, a model, a brand, an actress, a rapper, a great cook, supportive friend, and many other things. Most people admire my confidence and ability to adapt. I just love making people happy and laugh. As an artist, I write about what’s going on in my life. I really try to tell a story to get people to understand why I do the things that I do. I started music when I was younger but only because I was inspired by my dad. My dad would always be in the studio as a producer and would take me with him. When I went to college, one of my suite mates upset me, and I wrote my first song “Can’t be me hoe.” When I came in the studio and told my dad I had written a song and wanted to record, he did not take me seriously, but recorded my song because he loved my enthusiasm. After my first recording, my dad told me I was a natural. I begin to record other songs, but never really put them out because I’m a little shy.
What do you want to accomplish in life?
I have accomplished many things thus far. I graduated from high school from the 11th grade. I won a pageant and was signed to a model agency at the age of 14. I was the captain of my basketball team. I also ran a 2-minute flat 800 meters in track & field. In the corporate world, I started as an executive assistant and worked my way up becoming the Executive. I also moved to another city. But the one thing that I want to accomplish most is building a foundation for Colon Cancer. Colon Cancer is what caused the death of my father and it was a silent killer. As I’ve done my research, they don’t even test for it until you are 50. I would like to advocate for everyone to get that screening age lowered. I also would like to educate our African American men because that’s who is affected by it most. I want to encourage men to go to the doctors. I am very passionate about this and believe that my voice will make an impact in the cancer community.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Well, I am still really thinking about where I see myself next year. With COVID prevalent in 2020, things have really shifted. You really got to see who is strong and have their entrepreneurial hats on. Since the beginning of this pandemic, many businesses have begun to do very well-online. My goal is to expand my online business “Shop Reddy.” Within 5 years, I want to of course travel the world (hopefully, we figure out COVID by then.) But, I also would like to make speeches all over the world speaking to our youth, educating them about colon cancer. In 5 years, I would also like to expand my family. Not necessarily saying I’m going to have more kids, but maybe I might have a relationship. I would also like to buy more properties.
What do you bring to the music world?
I bring authenticity and humor to the music world. I am very sarcastic, and it shows in my music. Some people may see it as a show off but I am just confident. I also write my music. I wrote my song “Thirsty” because I was dating this football player and later found out that he had a wife. I was really upset about that. Also, in the second verse I spoke on a prior acquaintance that I thought was my friend but she just wanted me to put her on to my lifestyle. My life sometimes seems like a movie but I’m just living. Showing that you can be a mom and have a life is really important to me. Some people see me as the alpha female. I just think I know what I want and just wont settle for less. I am multifaceted. I act, I’m a model, and I can rap. I have this natural sex appeal while barely trying but also can be seen as the girl next door.
What type of legacy do you want to leave behind?
The legacy that I would want to leave behind is my foundation for Colon Cancer. I’m striving for success to change the age that you would get screened. I would also like to provide assistance for people who have Colon Cancer. When I was younger, I really didn’t have much guidance on what to do in the entertainment field. Some day I hope to create a community center to educate women how to get started on modeling or acting and to teach them the proper etiquette and what to look out for in this shady industry.
