Life is hard, and it can be unnecessarily hard when there is a lack of satisfaction within your life. From time to time, you have probably tried to fill this gap with something, whether it be food, shopping, relationships, or even keeping busy.

If this sounds like you, you probably know that all of these are temporary fixes, and never seem to fix the actual problem. Luckily, there are some healthy ways to find relief and meaning in your life.

Here are five different ways you can cultivate satisfaction in your life:

Let Go of Expectations

You probably have a lot of expectations for yourself, and also expectations by those around you. It can be stressful because that is a lot of pressure on you and your life. This stress can impact your health and overall well-being in negative ways.

To combat this, you are going to have to let go of all of those expectations, and do what is best for you. Not what is best for your teachers, parents, or friends, but what is best for you. It may be dropping out of classes, cutting your work hours, and getting help.

Set Your Own Rules

If you have some form of mental illness, you are going to have to readjust your definition of success. This can be hard because you are going to be bombarded with what success is any time you go on the internet or check out the news. Cutting that stuff out of your life can help you build a healthier life.

Success can look like getting out of bed. It could look like using Young Living essential oils before you go to bed. Showering and general self care are definitely a win, because you are caring for yourself.

Find Meaning

Meaning is something that is going to be different for everybody. You could find meaning in knowing that there is a power greater than yourself. It could be knowing that you are loved and supported by those around you. Whatever it is, it will help you get through the hard times and understand that your life is not pointless or meaningless.

Get the Help You Deserve

If you are having any kind of crisis or are suffering with the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental illness, go get help. This may mean going to a therapist, or some kind of 12 step group. There is relief for those that suffer from mental illness and addiction, and you can lead a normal, meaningful life. It may take some time, but you can build a life that you are proud of.

Stop Living in Fear

This may sound really hard, especially if you are prone to anxiety and panic attacks. Fear is a little different than anxiety, but can be controlled and overcome with the right techniques and practices.

Fear can be something as little as walking down the hallway and not saying hi to someone that you know. When you stop and think about it, you probably did not say hi because of fear that they would not hear you, or they would not say hi back. Getting rid of fear can be extremely scary at first, but is a huge relief when it stops controlling your life.
