Honest Rabbit Bablu

Honest Rabbit Bablu

By Noorsaeed Published 10 months ago 3 min read

In a lush green corner of the forest, there was a beautiful village-like place where many animals lived together. Some were big, some small, some fast, some slow—but they all lived in harmony. Among these animals lived a little rabbit named Bablu.

Bablu had shiny white fur, long ears, and sparkling eyes that everyone adored. He was known not only for being fast and clever but most importantly for his honesty. All the animals in the forest knew that Bablu never took anyone’s right and always told the truth.

One day, King Lion announced a sports day in the jungle. There would be different competitions in which all animals could participate. The biggest and most important race was the "Speed Run." The prize was a large basket full of juicy and sweet fruits.

All the animals got very excited. The monkey, the deer, the squirrel, the tortoise, the mongoose—and Bablu—all signed up for the race. Bablu too thought he would give it his best shot.

The day of the competition arrived. All the animals gathered in a big open field. On one end was the starting line, and on the other was the finish line. King Lion, Elder Elephant, and Owl Sir were sitting as the judges.

Before the race began, all the competing animals lined up at the start. King Lion roared, “One… Two… Three… Go!” and all the animals began to run.

Bablu was the fastest of them all. In no time, he got ahead of everyone else. Behind him was Mina the deer, then Mangu the monkey, and then the rest.

But as Bablu covered half the distance, something shiny on the ground caught his eye. He suddenly stopped and saw that some coins had fallen on the path. They seemed to have dropped from someone’s pouch. All the animals were carrying small pouches on their backs to carry their prize if they won.

Bablu paused and looked closely. He remembered Mina the deer had a small pouch tied behind her back. He figured the coins must have fallen from her pouch while she was running.

Now Bablu had two options: either he could ignore the coins and keep running to win the prize, or he could return and give them back to Mina.

After thinking for a few seconds, Bablu chose the second option. He turned around and ran back toward Mina, who was still running.

He called out, “Mina! Some coins fell from your pouch. Here, take them.”

Mina was both surprised and happy. She said, “Oh Bablu! You’re so honest. Thank you! I was just thinking that I’d lost my coins.”

Bablu smiled and said, “It’s my duty to return someone’s belongings.”

Then he tried to catch up with the race again, but by then, most of the animals had already reached near the finish line.

When Bablu crossed the finish line, he was among the last ones. All the animals were confused—how could Bablu lose when he was the fastest?

King Lion called for silence and asked Bablu, “You were ahead of everyone. Why did you fall behind?”

Bablu respectfully replied, “Your Majesty, I found some coins along the way that had fallen from Mina’s pouch. I thought returning someone’s lost belongings was more important than winning the race.”

There was complete silence in the forest. All the animals looked at Bablu with surprise and respect. King Lion’s eyes sparkled with pride.

“Bablu!” King Lion roared, “Today, you have taught us all that winning is not only in the race but also in our character. Your honesty makes you more deserving than anyone else.”

Then King Lion gave the prize basket to Bablu, and all the animals clapped and cheered for him. Bablu returned home happily, but the thing that made him the happiest was that he had stayed true to his values.
