Habits of High Performing Employees

Top Habits of High Performing Employees to Follow

By Steven MuiPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Every business these days tries to hire high performing employees to stay competitive. This is not surprising because a McKinsey study estimates that the best performers are 400% more productive than average. And as the complexity of work increases, so does the difference in productivity. In complex jobs (like accounting and engineering), high performers are surprisingly 800% more productive.

But what does it take to identify a high-performing employee? But once you recognize them, how can managers continue to develop their skills and abilities? The most successful employees have qualities that set them apart.

1. They have their own system. Whether it's morning routines, anniversaries, newsletters, and more, high-performing employees have their own way of staying grounded and organized. It helps them stay focused on what's important, so they can do their jobs well.

2. They question themselves. Always concerned about quality, high-performing employees keep their word. If for some reason they cannot deliver, then they negotiate another deliverance. High performers and high achievers know exactly what to expect.

3. They will accept challenges. Most of the time, it doesn't need to be said. Successful employees are willing to work hard. They are willing to solve problems. Most of the time, it is the employees who bring you the problem and the solution.

4. They learn from their failures. In terms of accomplishments, high-performing employees do not always meet their objectives. They do, however, use those times to reflect and learn from the circumstances. They don't see the situation as a failure. It is a potential to grow.

5. They know how to manage their time. High-performing employees can work at their level because they understand their role and how to do things. This includes saying "no" from time to time so as not to disappoint him. Or communicate commitments and set clear expectations.

6. They are committed and willing to contribute to the organization. Many of these traits indicate a person who likes to be involved in their work and in the company around them. They work at a high level because the company is invested in their success. High-performing employees establish a working relationship based on trust and respect.

7. They are dedicated to their own personal growth. When it comes to learning new skills, high-performers are not complacent. Every day, high-performing employees acquire new knowledge. It does not have to be a game-changing discovery. They recognize that learning occurs in small iterations.

8. They set their own objectives. Along with stretch objectives. High-performing employees have objectives. Not just the objectives set by the company. They each have their own objectives. Furthermore, high-performers set ambitious goals. Perhaps to complete the project on time or under budget. They seek out opportunities to outperform expectations.

9. They concentrate on the positive. This is not to say that everything around them is always positive. When given the option of celebrating or being cynical, they choose to be optimistic. This concept encourages high-performing employees to participate in their work.

10. They listen to others for feedback, ideas, and tried-and-true strategies. Employees who perform well absorb information. It could be because of their performance. Or a conference speaker who provides a tip or resource. Perhaps a coworker describing a strategy that worked for them.

High performance and excellent results are not by chance. Instead, there is a wealth of tried-and-true advice on how to improve your daily performance and reach your full potential. It makes no difference how many or which strategies you employ. What is important is consistency. By being consistent, showing up every day, and getting a little bit better each week, you'll create a version of yourself capable of achieving any goal. High performers recognize the value of excellence, consistency, and balance. By emulating these tried-and-true habits everyday, you'll be one step closer to accomplishing more than you've ever imagined.
