Gratitude Tarot Spread to Begin the Holidays

Practice gratitude with the tarot

By Megan ReesPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

As we are approaching the end of the year and the holiday season is upon us, it is time to slow down, pause, and reflect. Before we can fully reflect on the year behind us, we must first understand our gratitude for the blessings that already exist in our lives.

Having a gratitude practice is very personal for me. Simply acknowledging each day that there was something that supported me or made me happy got me through the worst of times. I wanted to begin this holiday season with gratitude and offer a gratitude tarot spread to help guide you on your spiritual path.

If I’m being completely honest, this has been one of the hardest periods of my life. Once I thought the storm had passed, another one came to take its place. I chose this tarot spread because it asks the seeker to create a gratitude list before the reading begins, choosing 1 or 2 things that resonate with them. It’s time to get personal.

1. Support

Because of the current state of things, I had to reach out for support in ways I’d never thought I’d have to. If you know me at all, you know of my need for self-sufficiency. I’ve created a pretty good life caring for myself and developed a complex against asking for help. It took almost everything I had to do so - letting go of the idea that people will find me weak. I realized that I was tired of being strong and had no choice but to accept help. For those of you that have supported me this year, I am truly grateful that you exist. <3

2. How can I honor this gratitude?

6 of Swords (reversed)

Continue to lean-in to your support network, as people have already proven whether or not they are reliable. Take this time to let go of what no longer serves you, but you already know this. Seeing this card is a sign that you are already in the process of shedding that will bring you closer to your best self.

3. What is blocking me right now?

7 of Swords (reversed)

You’ve been living in a survivalist’s mentality, which causes you to isolate and hide. You may also be letting your imposter syndrome get the best of you. Remind yourself that you are safe and that fear creates bigger monsters than reality does. Trust yourself.

4. How can I share this gratitude with others?

King of Wands (reversed)

Your fiery passion lights up the world. Continue to live the way you are and know that you will always have support. As you continue to achieve your dream, remember your goal for empowerment. Reach out to those in your support network and remind yourself to stay true to what’s important.

5. What negativities do I have around support?

5 of Cups (reversed)

What actually happened when you asked for help? Did the world come crashing down like you thought it would? You had assumed you could do it all, but you were wrong. Remember those that have been there for you and forget the rest. Cultivate those relationships. If you live as your true self, you will never be alone. Know that this card signals that you are opening up yourself to life again and that’s a beautiful thing.

6. How do I ground myself in this gratitude?

The Tower

You are currently realizing that everything you thought you knew was wrong and a new belief system is emerging. Don’t follow old ways of thinking, as they are limiting you. It’s ok to let your old belief system go. The best way to ground yourself is to accept the fact that unexpected change can occur at any time and it’s just fine. You can either fight against the change, hoping for things to get better or surrender to the new beginning that is inevitable. Suffering is a choice, after all.
