Have you ever felt trapped in your life, like you were in a never ending cycle of doing the same things over and over again

Have you ever felt trapped in your life, like you were in a never ending cycle of doing the same things over and over again? That's a very depressing feeling that some people go through in life, and I’m here to shed more light on that. This could happen to you whether you are doing good in life or not, you may just enter into a routine of doing the same things over and over again and your life ends up becoming this kind of movie where everything is predictable, and you see it coming. Unfortunately, you can’t just go ahead by trying to do new things because you are scared it might destroy all what you have already going on, the feeling can’t just vanish by thinking about different things either.

Very often this is underestimated because since it doesn’t cause any physical or mental damages there is no incentive to fix it, you just kind of deal with it by ignoring it while waiting for someone else to bring a new spark into your life. This feeling sometimes pushes people into a rebellious phase, when given the right opportunity, even the most ordinary persons end up doing crazy things just to put some color into their lives. Life most definitely can feel like a trap in multiple circumstances, irrespective of where you are or who you are. Here are some of those instances where your life can certainly feel very monotonous and uncomfortable.

Difficulties

I’m sure you know some persons who are stuck in difficulties and are forced to work at a job they don’t particularly like while doing the same things over and over again, they keep the same routine, they do the same things literally every day, walk on the same roads, take the same bus, I mean everything is the same down to the timing. For some people routine is good, it gives balance and stability in this very uncertain life, but for others even that routine feels worse than instability. You feel like a puppet being controlled by somebody else, you could even get some “out of body” experiences where it feels like you aren’t in control anymore. The worse part is that you can’t really do anything about this, if you tried anything new then you’d make the problems you already have worse, so you are forced to stay the same while hoping the problems get fixed, your salary is just sufficient to keep the problems from becoming bigger while taking all of your time preventing you from trying anything new.

Abundance

Who knew that having too much could also be a trap, everything you do in abundance can most definitely entrap you, be it charity or even selfish ambitions. It may be hard to believe that there are people out there with enormous amounts of money which they don’t even know what to do with, should they spend it and risk losing it all or should they continue buying emotionless stuff. There are people who have done so well in life that they have nothing else to look forward to, they could make millions in a day if they wanted to but at this point they have all become numb to the joy that the money brings, and now they feel trapped in this life where they have to keep working to make money not more for themselves but rather for the people all around them, the passion is gone, the purpose has been accomplished, there is nothing challenging anymore and the success has now become a trap.

Sickness

Definitely being sick is one of those worse moments, imagine being confined to a chair or a bed for years, only being able to look at the dry walls while waiting for a distraction. This is certainly a very frustrating scenario, very difficult to deal with, both for the sick person and the people all around them. After a while even the friends get tired of visiting, the people taking care of that sick person get exhausted, not always because it's a demanding but mostly because it's a routine with no end in sight.

Marriage

This can most definitely feel like a trap too, not for the reasons you might think. I know marriage has gotten a bad rep lately, but I think it's because people approach it from the wrong perspective. Marriage can feel like a trap when you have unresolved feelings, projects and are uninformed, most people approach marriage in search for a person who can fill what's lacking in their lives while it should rather be to build up on what is existing. When you get into marriage without achieving your life goals, being emotionally immature and uninformed, then you end up feeling trapped into marriage. You should already know that getting married will take half of your time, so finish those projects first, you should know that it is emotionally demanding, so you have to be emotionally balanced for yourself and for your partner, you should know what marriage is all about from the experience of others. When you don’t have those prerequisite, then you end up feeling like you rushed into it and now feel trapped in your life.

Childhood

This is also a very difficult part of life because you are getting to know who you are as a person and looking for your place in this world. I remember asking myself this question a lot when I was young, “who am I?”. Finding your place in this life can be hard, knowing what you want can be even harder and parents don’t always make this easy, either they are forcing you down a path you don’t necessarily like, or they are giving you way too much freedom. Like I said, it's not everybody who is like this, on average children definitely have a bliss, but it might also happen that they feel trapped in their lives mostly from not being able to understand their feelings.

Work

I think this is the most common in our society today with so many employees out there. With most people working to earn a paycheck as compared to doing what they love, it's so easy to feel entrapped in your own life, you wake up every day at 5 am, dress up, go to work and do the same things, return home early enough to sleep then repeat the cycle over and over again. How wouldn’t you feel trapped in this routine, especially when what you do doesn’t challenge you in any way or has been done so many times that you’ve run out of passion, but you don’t have a choice, you must show up if you want to get that paycheck. You have to stay in this lifestyle to ensure that things don’t get worse because they most certainly can and will get worse if you do anything crazy. The weekends are short, the bosses are mean, the colleagues are boring and there is only the divisive social media there to take the edge off.

How to fix this

I won’t say there is a definite fix which applies to everybody all at once, but I think everybody needs a medium to express themselves, that moment when they can scream to their heart's contempt, that moment when they can let go of all the pressure building up for months, without this you are sure to fall into a depression at some point. You need that day or just that moment when you can try something different, do something different or just feel something different. Understanding your feelings can be the most difficult part because you might not know what you want to do actually, you just know you want to feel differently, but you don’t know exactly what you want to do to feel this way. My advice to you is to start by speaking this out loud, if you are feeling this way then voice it out to anybody, to your diary to your partner or even just a friend, there is much power into voicing things out we’ve been holding in for long, that's definitely the first step.
