DaVinci Resolve: The best editing software for beginners
Are you an aspiring video editor, at the start of your journey? Well great news because this article is just for you!
Today I wanted to talk about what I would argue is the very best video editing software you can get if you are starting out as a video editor. Whether you want to edit YouTube videos, social media content, Music videos or Hollywood blockbusters.
This software is very hard to beat.
What is DaVinci Resolve?
In a nutshell, it is a video editing software, developed by Blackmagic Design, what makes this unique is it started out more as a colour grading piece of software, and grew into a fully functional video editor.
After using it as one of my main editing solutions over the past 6 months, I can safely say, it not only lives up to the hype, but is a fantastic tool for any video editor.
I hear you ask, Hey I’m only just starting out, why should I dive into this tool over something else like Premiere Pro, Avid or Final Cut Pro?
It’s free
Yes free, not just a free trial, or free for a set time, completely free. Yes there is a paid version but the free version itself is more than enough to get you started in your editing journey.
If you want to be an editor, you need to edit. If you are sitting here and thinking I want to be an editor, whatever field that could be in, you need to start, and with a free tool like DaVinci Resolve, its makes it so much easier.
Grab some video stock footage on sites like Pixel, add it to DaVinci resolve, and start cutting together several pieces to make a coherent story. Get stuck? head over to YouTube to troubleshoot exactly what you are trying to do.
Well done you’ve just edited your first video!
Widely used across multiply industry's
Free is great, but there are other free video editors out there, so why DaVinci Resolve?
Good question.
Its a piece of software used not just on the likes of YouTube, but by a wide range of video editing professionals.
If you aspire to one day work in Hollywood editing the next big blockbuster, then you are going to have to learn how to use different software, so starting with a more well known solution is a better place to start.
If you take a look at YouTube a lot of well known, and popular channels have started to switch over to Davinci Resolve over the last few years, and is a trend that is continuing to grow.
Not only that films like Alien: Covenant, Avatar, Deadpool 2, Jason Bourne, , La La Land, and more have been edited using DaVinci Resolve.
Lot’s of online resources
Jumping into any new software, especially video editing can be extremely daunting especially if it’s your first time. I’ve been playing around with different video editing software's for years, and I still have so much more to learn.
That being said, in the age of YouTube University, there are hundreds upon hundreds of in depth videos, that will have you editing like a semi professional in a matter of months.

Go on, What are you waiting for?
If you are starting out, or want to be an editor, then do yourself a favor and download DaVinci Resolve, available on Mac, Windows and Linux. It is also available on the iPad for anyone who already has one.
Have you already been using DaVinci Resolve? If so how have you found it? I mean I just prefer both the User Interface, and how well it works on my laptop compared to the likes of Premiere Pro. (another great editing software)
