We have always asked by random people, or even ourselves what really makes us happy. What makes you happy. What makes me happy. An easy question, not always been an easy answer to it.
My mother was a modest woman, an old school , a classic fashionable woman . I grew up with beautiful fabrics made into clothes, she collected only classic piece accessories, vintage, beautifully crafted and collectibles. She inspired me. And always have.
That’s how I got my passion for fashion, always played dressed up. And it got carried away, I became the fashion enthusiast. I would spend my days reading fashion magazine, watched every fashion related show on TV, always up to date . I was what so called A fashionista. I wanted to be a fashion designer, handbag designer , anything fashion related. I attended the fashion design course, I got the job as fashion design teacher assistant, I tried to submit my works to some fashion design competition, I worked as a handbag designer in China, I was so active in fashion world.
Fast forward, A little bit different now, I got married, have kid and a stay home mom. When we grew up, sometimes we have became someone that we probably don’t know. With the events that happened, we lost interest in things we used to love. I think that what happened to me. Mood swings, unmotivated, this and that. And up to the point that I just want to concentrate to my daughter only. Nothing else matters. No need to dress up anymore, no need to put the makeup on, no need to look fancy anymore. Just a boring plain human being.
Then one day I realized that my passion is the one that makes me hold on to life. Things that we love to do, when we happy while doing it.
I love painting, I love crafting and I love fashion. So I decided to make the craft projects again. Started out with the fabrics, a pair of scissors, acrylic paints, paint brushes , flower trims, rhinestones I created some crafts like mixed media paintings, when I combine the painting with fabrics, using it as a cute decoration for my daughter’s room. It makes me happy and also makes her happy. It’s a bundle of joy whenever you see someone impressed by what you were making. Then I started to do the hair bows for her, decorated face masks, flowers tutu skirts, hand painted T-shirt’s. Those little things makes me happy. My passion makes me happy.
Art and craft has been my therapy, I found out that everytime I started doing something craft and handmade related I really found myself again. Brought my mind to my happy places . When Fashion makes me feel happy and in good mood, looking good and feeling good inside. I blended the fashion sense in my crafts. And it makes me happy.
I put aside the feeling that crafter doesn’t make good money, what I care is my own well being, and I found it in crafting, paintings and dressing up. I am happy enough to do some artwork for my daughter. She is always happy and excited to wear the handmade bows to school, decorated face mask full or ruffles and flower trim, a room full of paintings that mommy made to her, amazed by handmade decorated unicorn slippers, even loves wearing the handmade tutu skirt to go school just to show it to her friends .
I found my happy place. And whenever people ask what makes me happy , I’ll answer it easily “ my passions in fashion and crafts”.
What makes you happy?
