Coming Out The Closet

This is not about being in support of someone’s choices, nor standing in opposition, but rather focusing on how we understand each other, and again most importantly love each other.

My friends, I am sure by now you are aware, I do a ton of thinking. Even more now than normal, as I have become more familiar with a little feature them smart phones called “DO NOT DISTURB” or as I like to think of it as the “YOU SHALL HAVE PEACE” feature.

So now I have a tad more time to think, to process, something If I could for a moment speak honestly, have never done. I just most in this world, has spent his life, running from one war to the next, never stoping to truly understand what happened, or more importantly why?

Now that I am in this new mind if you will, I can see a tad clearier. For example I didn’t really know this our society has found a way, and subsequently a reason to each and everyday celebrate something. We have this year paid homage to everything from a good old fashion cup of Starbucks, to a nice over glazed Krispy Cream Donut.

For me sitting comfy in my recliner, prepared to slide into my 40s by way of 37 in just seven months, I think its safe to join the ranks of the elderly and say, the faith words of “back in my day” we if you remember Black History Month, Easter, 4th of July, lets just say it was at least one holiday every month which served as a reason for those to get super wasted, accompanied by other activities we dare not mention at this time; but now I have just lost count.

Just for context inside the now1,500 National Days, in counting, as researchers are still uncovering many things we love and enjoy adding them to the calendar. But as the calendar fills, there sits one that super important day that each day gets flushed down the societal drain. No it is not Martin Luther King Day, which is January 15th, and the 3rd Monday in January, Abraham Lincolns Birthday, celebrated February 12th, annually, or George Washington, recognized on February 22nd, but is also where we get Presidents Day each 3rd Monday in February, or the celebration of the drunk who claimed to discover America, which is now also National Indigenous People Day, slated for the 2nd Monday in October; and No even tho I have over the past few weeks gained many friends in the community do I wish to focus on October 11th, National Coming Out Day. I don’t think I need to honestly, because I am sure if you drive or walk one or two blocks of your community, you will see the rainbow flag flying high.

No the National Day I am referring too is celebrated each calendar year on 10th day of October, known as National Mental Health Day.

As I have been doing some processing, I have discovered a few things I didn’t even know about myself. I have understood that I am not defined by what people say about me; that some fights I don’t have to have; that some folks I don’t have to deal with; and most importantly I can without apology demand to live in peace.

So if you are one of those people who today is ready to have some serious peace. If this is the day you have decided the wars of your past, and present ends now, I say we get to right about now.

Invite you to join me, in a moment of personal meditation. I have challenged myself to each day over the next seven days, write down everything that has is, and is trying to keep me locked away in my Cinderella room.

And whatever it takes I will, I shall, I must have peace. So right lets do before we go further, just take a personal moment and start demanding it, start believing in it, and most importantly, start expecting peace.
