Challenges: Who Are You?

Choose Who You WILL Be.

By Spencer SchmidtPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Learning who you are once you meet face to face with an obstacle or challenge is something many people face throughout their lives. Multiple times do we find ourselves meeting these phases between jobs, promotions, opportunities to move to a different city or country.. or even as simple as playing sports.

The number #1 thing these obstacles will show you, is a piece.. if not fully of who you actually are at that moment, and what makes you what you are. This can mean both physically or emotionally.. especially mentally. These specific obstacles and challenges show you what you are right now, but that also opens up a bigger door for you to step through which is asking yourself "Am I going to stay like this, am I okay with who I am, or do I want to grow and change?". Allowing yourself to view these challenges and obstacles and roadblocks as opportunities to analyze yourself are one of the most missed openings in anyone's lives that no one really talks about.

You're missing chances to alter your personality, your work ethic, your dreams and desires to fit what you truely feel is right for you. A cubicle in a 9-5 office is not fit for everyone. A farm job throwing bales and tending animals isn't a fit for everyone. I recently took a higher position at my job and it definitely changes my perspective daily on how I am as a person, what it means to be okay with change and how to consistently and repeatedly deny stress or negative emotions. I choose to face my issues head on as a manager, rather than quiver on the "what ifs?!?" that stress will burden your thoughts with.

This life isn't what people make it out to be. STOP taking advice and life goals from people who are NOT in the position that you want to be in in 10-20 years. I'm always seeing people depressed and stressed about what they don't have or "can't" have because somebody who makes the same as them tells them "how to win" when they can't do it themselves. Make the constant effort HOURLY to speak your dreams and desires into existence to yourself. It doesn't have to be out loud in front of others. Let it be within, where you can contemplate and organize a way to get to your goals, baby steps at a time. I came into my position with an eager passion to prove I'm one of the top to do it. At such an early age, I was doing it. I was proving people wrong and making some people who disliked me, even more distraught.

But it also brought along a tremendous amount of responsibility, which allowed me to see who I was.. and if I was going to stay that way or grow and build on what I've already learned. This applies with everything from love life, to your job and even your happiness. Analyze who you are, how you are and if it's time to change the game of life or if you're okay with tip-toeing through death. I've gotten way off task with stories lately but I'm giving it a shot again as a warm-up task for my other endeavors in life.
