Beatrice Tokayer’s Mission to Create Sensory-Friendly Spaces for Comfort and Connection

At the heart of BRT Interior Design is Beatrice Tokayer, a passionate interior designer with a unique mission: to create spaces that are not only beautiful and functional but also specifically designed to cater to the sensory preferences of the people who inhabit them. Whether she’s working with families to transform their homes into havens of calm and comfort, or helping business owners create sensory-friendly workplaces, Beatrice’s work is rooted in improving the well-being and overall mood of each individual. Beatrice’s approach to interior design is deeply personal. Her journey into the world of sensory-focused design began with her own family’s challenges. She knew something was off when her middle son wasn’t hitting key developmental milestones. He struggled with sleep, had bursts of energy that seemed impossible to channel, and faced difficulties socially and academically. After seeking professional guidance, her son was diagnosed with ADHD and sensory processing disorder. Like many parents, Beatrice was determined to find ways to help her child thrive. This personal experience sparked a passion in Beatrice to explore how environments impact sensory health. She soon realized that the physical spaces in which we live, work, and play can have a profound effect on how we feel, act, and function — especially for individuals with specific sensory preferences. Beatrice knew she could apply her interior design skills in a way that went beyond aesthetics and functionality to create environments that cater to unique sensory needs.

After completing her studies at the Institute of Art and Design in New York, Beatrice pursued additional education in color psychology and sensory integration. She began to see how specific design elements, such as lighting, textures, and colors, could either soothe or overwhelm the senses, and she became passionate about crafting spaces that promote calm, focus, and overall sensory well-being. This led to the founding of BRT Interior Design, a firm dedicated to creating sensory-friendly spaces that enhance comfort and connection. Beatrice’s mission is to help others, particularly families and businesses, design environments that allow every individual to express their true selves while feeling comfortable and at ease. One of the key components of Beatrice’s work is her focus on sensory preferences, a term she uses to highlight the unique ways individuals respond to their environments. For some, bright lights and loud colors can be energizing, while for others, they can be overwhelming. Beatrice takes the time to understand these preferences and tailors her designs to meet the specific needs of each client, ensuring that the spaces she creates are enjoyable and functional.
At BRT Interior Design, no two projects are the same because no two clients are the same. Whether Beatrice is designing a sensory-friendly bedroom for a child who needs a calm retreat, or creating a workspace that fosters focus and productivity for employees with different sensory preferences, she works closely with each client to ensure that their individual needs are met. In addition to working with families, Beatrice has expanded her services to include businesses, helping employers design workspaces that are more inclusive and comfortable for employees with a range of sensory needs. From open-concept offices that minimize distractions to quiet areas where employees can focus, BRT Interior Design offers solutions that help everyone feel more connected and productive. Beatrice’s work is more than just design — it’s about helping people live happier, healthier lives by creating environments that support their sensory well-being.

She believes that when people feel comfortable and at ease in their surroundings, they are better able to focus, connect with others, and express their true selves. Through BRT Interior Design, Beatrice has made it her mission to create spaces that go beyond traditional design. Her passion for sensory preferences and her dedication to improving people’s quality of life shines through in every project she undertakes. Whether you’re looking to transform your home or your business, Beatrice and her team are here to help you create a space that is not only beautiful but also supportive of your sensory health and well-being.
