Adult Learning Principles: A Story-Style Essay

Chapter 1: A New Beginning

Rehan was a 5-years old boy who, instead of pursuing an education in his youth, had taken over the family business. He was hardworking, but in the modern era, business competition was increasing. One day, he realized that if he did not start learning again, he would be left behind.

"Can I learn something new at this age?" he asked himself.

This question usually comes to the mind of many adults who want to try learning again. But adults do not learn like children; their learning process is based on specific principles.

Chapter 2: Adult Learning Principles

Rehan mentioned his confusion to his wife, Sarah. Sarah said, "Learning is not limited by age; we just have to understand that adults do not learn like children. Their learning principles are different."

Sarah introduced Rehan to the "Adult Learning Principles," which were introduced by renowned educationist Malcolm Knowles.

1. Autonomy and Self-Direction

Adults are usually personally responsible for their own learning. They decide for themselves what to learn and how to learn.

Rehan decided that he would learn modern business management to further develop his business. He started learning through YouTube, online courses, and webinars.

2. Experiential Learning

Adults have extensive life experience, and they learn by integrating new information with their own experiences.

Rehan had gained many years of experience in his family business, so when he learned about marketing and finance, he began to understand these concepts with his old experiences.

3. Objectivity and Practical Application

Adults usually learn things that will be useful in their practical lives.

Rehan created a new business plan and started to put the concepts he learned online into practice. He adopted a new marketing strategy, which yielded very positive results.

4. Readiness to Learn

Adults are only interested in learning when they feel it is necessary for them.

When Rehan saw that his business growth had stalled, he seriously understood the importance of learning and began his education.

5. Intrinsic Motivation

Compared to children, adults learn more because of intrinsic motivation. They learn for their own personal growth rather than for rewards or punishments.

The biggest reward for Rehan was being able to improve himself and his business. He was excited to learn something new every day.

Chapter 3: Practical Application

Rehan implemented the new digital marketing principles in his company a few months later, and surprisingly, his business sales started to increase.

"If I had focused on learning earlier, this progress would have probably happened years ago!" Rehan thought with a smile.

Conclusion: Learning never stops.

Thanks to understanding the principles of adult learning, Rehan proved that age is not a barrier to learning but an advantage because experience is the best teacher.

If you also want to learn something new, then like Rehan, awaken your inner courage, adopt a learning path that suits your needs, and bring progress into your life.
