In a small village far from the bustling city, lived a 19-year-old boy named Adit. The village was remote, surrounded by forests and vast rice fields, but life within it was full of hardships. Adit was the eldest of three siblings, and since childhood, he had become accustomed to the harsh realities of life.
Adit's father, Mr. Ramli, was a farm laborer. Every day, he worked in other people's fields from dawn until dusk, earning only a meager wage. Meanwhile, Adit's mother, Mrs. Siti, worked as a seamstress from home. This job didn’t always bring in enough income, especially when sewing orders were scarce. In this state of constant struggle, Adit grew up to be a responsible and caring young man. He often sacrificed his own happiness to help his family.
One day, as Adit was walking home from school, he heard his classmates laughing behind him. "Hey, Adit! Why do you even bother going to school? In the end, you’ll just be a farm laborer like your father!" one of them shouted mockingly.
Adit only gave a bitter smile and continued walking. He knew they were mocking him because of his family’s poverty. Such insults were not new to him. Since childhood, he had become used to hearing people belittle his family, saying they would never escape their impoverished life.
But deep down, Adit held onto a big dream. He wanted to change his family’s fate. Every night, after a long day helping his father in the fields and assisting his mother with sewing, Adit made time to study. Although an oil lamp was the only source of light in their home, he diligently read books he borrowed from the school library.
One night, while Adit was reading a book about technology, he noticed his mother sitting pensively in the corner of the room. Mrs. Siti looked exhausted, her hands rough from sewing all day. "Mom, what’s wrong?" Adit asked gently.
Mrs. Siti sighed deeply. "Son, I just feel sad because I can’t give you and your siblings more. I know you have big dreams, but… we’re just poor."
Adit held his mother’s hand tightly. "Mom, don’t worry. I’ll work hard, and one day, we’ll escape this poverty. I promise."
Days passed, and life for Adit became increasingly difficult. One day, Mr. Ramli fell ill. The illness he had been ignoring for so long had worsened, making him unable to work anymore. Adit had to take over the responsibility as the head of the family. He not only worked in other people’s fields but also looked for other ways to earn money. However, what he earned was still far from enough to meet his family’s needs.
One evening, when Adit was sitting in front of his house, thinking about his family’s fate, a neighbor came over. "Adit, why don’t you try going to the city? There are many jobs you can do there. Maybe you could send more money back to your family."
Adit considered the suggestion. Moving to the city could be a way out, but he couldn’t just leave his family behind, especially in their current state. But at the same time, he realized that staying in the village wouldn’t bring much change.
With a heavy heart, Adit decided to go to the city. He knew that his decision would sadden his family, but he also knew that this was the only way to give them a better life. Before leaving, he said goodbye to his parents. Mrs. Siti cried, hugging Adit tightly. "Son, be careful out there. Your father and I will always pray for you."
The journey to the city wasn’t easy. Adit arrived with only a few clothes and borrowed money. Life in the city was vastly different from the village. Everything felt strange to him, and he had no one to rely on. He had to live in a small boarding house on the city’s outskirts, sharing a room with several other workers who had also come from other regions.
Adit’s days in the city were filled with trials. He worked as a construction laborer during the day and as a shopkeeper at night. The work was exhausting, and he often had to endure harsh treatment from his employers. "Hey, do you think this is your village? Work faster! You’re being paid to work, not to slack off!" his boss shouted one day when Adit was already exhausted.
Adit could only bow his head and accept the treatment. He knew he had no other options. Every cent he earned, he sent back to his family in the village. Though sometimes the money wasn’t enough, Adit kept trying. Despite his busy schedule, he still made time to study. He used his breaks to read books about business and technology that he bought from flea markets.
One night, as Adit was walking home to his boarding house, he saw an old man lying on the side of the road. The man looked weak and helpless. Without thinking twice, Adit immediately helped him. It turned out that the old man, Mr. Darman, was a successful businessman who had fallen on hard times after losing all his wealth. Adit took the old man to his place, giving him food and taking care of him until he recovered.
Moved by Adit’s kindness, Mr. Darman decided to help him. He saw great potential in Adit, especially in his diligence and intelligence. Mr. Darman taught Adit about the business world and gave him a small amount of capital to start a small business. With Mr. Darman’s guidance and support, Adit started a business buying and selling secondhand goods and local knick-knacks through an e-commerce platform.
At first, the business grew slowly. Many people doubted his abilities, and some even laughed at him. "Adit, you’re just a village boy. What do you know about business? You’d be better off going back to the village and becoming a farm laborer again!" said a coworker mockingly.
But Adit didn’t give up. He kept working hard, seizing every opportunity to learn and improve his business. With extraordinary perseverance, Adit’s business began to grow. Within a few years, he managed to transform his small venture into a successful, large company.
Adit’s success not only elevated his family’s status but also had a significant impact on his village. Adit returned to the village, bringing pride and hope to many people. He built a school and provided scholarships for underprivileged children so they wouldn’t have to face the difficulties he once endured.
Adit’s life, once filled with insults and suffering, had now turned into a success story that inspired many. However, despite all that he had achieved, Adit remained humble. He never forgot where he came from and continued to help those around him.
In the end, Adit proved that with determination, courage, and a heart full of kindness, anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. No matter how difficult the challenges, Adit’s sacrifices and hard work finally bore the sweetest fruit.
