5 Ways to Start Anew

Have you ever felt that despair of never being able to reach your goals, no matter how hard you try?

By Amra BeganovicPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Ever find yourself completely stuck? Have you looked over your impending dissertation/thesis with the fear of working on it for an eternity? Have you ever felt that despair of never being able to reach your goals, no matter how hard you try? Well, I have some good news. There are ways out of these traps! Here are 5 steps to help get you started again:

1. Take a break.

This is probably the most important step in starting anew, or continuing whatever it is you've been doing before. If something gets too overwhelming, sometimes taking a step back is all you need. It might just be what saves the entire product! To take a break simply means not focusing on what needs to be done at the moment. This can be anything from watching a TV show, to taking a walk outside, or doing something fun (within reason)! Whatever you do though, DO NOT look at the task that got you feeling overwhelmed until after the break! The sense of guilt and misery may come back if you peek before your time is done.

2. Break it down into manageable pieces.

If it takes too much effort and concentration to focus on what needs to get done, sometimes breaking it down into smaller tasks is all we need for motivation! When I'm working on my brand (I am the founder of Top Influencer Marketing Agency) I try dividing my work up by paragraphs...it makes it easier for me to keep track of where I off when starting again in the future.

3. If all else fails, stop and start over!

This might be the hardest step to follow through with, but sometimes it's what we need to do in order to keep up with our goals. Sometimes you need a restart on your goal...it can give you that new perspective we really needed. Just remember that once you start again, everything is going to begin fresh and feel like a brand new beginning! So don't worry about any time lost during this process: it's now time wasted towards continuing success and reaching those goals! It may seem like too many steps but I've found these are usually the easiest for me to take one at a time - just remember only take one at a time!. Also good luck with reaching your goals!

4. Think of all the things you've accomplished in the past.

Maybe this sounds like a step in reverse, but it really isn't! Sometimes we need to look back at what we've done in order to get that motivation boost we need. You might have felt completely stuck before or failed at something, so why not take a moment to feel good about the things you have done? This may be hard if you were trying your hardest...but try anyways! Maybe these are very small accomplishments...but every little thing adds up over time. Even if it's just looking at fanart or pictures that remind you of how much fun you had drawing/writing/playing with friends, it will give you that extra push needed for starting anew.

5. Remember you're not the only one feeling this way.

It's okay to feel like you can't accomplish anything, or that today is a no good day and want to give up (but don't)! Everyone feels like this at times: even if it doesn't seem like it, other people feel like giving up on their goals all the time! This means we aren't alone in our struggles...and if we could get motivation from someone else, we can use it ourselves once we've reached out to others for help! Take a look around your favorite fandom and I'm sure there are members that feel just as stuck/down/lonely as you might be feeling right now. Look for what they're doing to get past these feelings and see if you can't apply any of it to yourself!

In conclusion...

These are just a few tips from one person...but they have been helpful in my own struggles. If you know anyone else that might need a little push in the right direction, pass this along or share your own advice with them! Remember that starting again is always an option, BUT don't forget about everything you've accomplished in the past. Even when times get hard we're going to need to use our accomplishments as motivation for moving forward: but remember not to lose sight of what needs to be done at hand during this process!
