Resilience in Adversity: Finding Strength Through Fulfillment
3 things men can do to start living a fulfilled life
Have you ever wondered how some people seem to bear the weight of the world on their shoulders?
This reminds me of the story of Atlas. In Greek mythology, Atlas was Titan. At one point in history, Titans waged war against the Olympian Gods. When the Olympians defeated the Titans, Zeus punished Atlas by holding up the sky. That was to hold up the sky on his shoulders for all eternity.
Imagine bearing the weight of the sky for all eternity. If you are a man of honor, you know this feeling. First, in the case of man, this is a decision. There's zero expectation for us to do this nowadays.
Still, the world yearns for the leadership of men. This is the same as bearing the weight of the world. Because when the expectation of men returns, we must be ready to bear the burden. Bear the weight of the world on our shoulders.
But how can we come back to being these types of men? We must face the challenges, build resilience, and thrive. The latter serves your fulfillment in life.
Here are my thoughts:
- Finding strength in faith and purpose
- Embracing vulnerability
- Balancing personal and professional life
Finding Strength in Faith and Purpose
When I hear faith, I often think about God. This is not a bad thing, of course. I do understand that not everyone can relate, though. So let's define faith to establish common ground. Etymonline defines 'faith' as follows:
- Faithfulness to a trust or promise
- Loyalty to a person
- Honesty and truthfulness
- Belief, trust, confidence, pledge...
As you can see, the definition doesn't mention God. Though, the Bible does talk a lot about it.
So how does one find strength? One must be in a position to be strong. One must be in a position to overcome life's challenges. It's that simple. And we face challenges every day. Even those that we perceive as having an easy life or "they make it look easy".
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength." - Philippians 4:13
Embracing Vulnerability
Every man is vulnerable to something or someone. A man should express himself and unload his feelings and emotions when needed. A man must also learn with whom to do it, though.
Not everyone is a man's friend. Not everyone can handle the burden. Not everyone can keep it to themselves.
That's why a man ought to seek refuge in the Father. Second best: other men. The same rules still apply, though. Not all men are our friends, though. Still, a man ought to seek help, for it's the path to healing and resilience.
"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles." - Psalm 34:17-18
Balancing Personal and Professional Life
This comes from priorities. A man must set priorities in his life and at work. When at work, a man prioritizes the tasks that matter. The ones that provide the most value.
When at home (life), a man must prioritize his family. Giving his time, energy, and love to them.
To achieve this balance, a man must set boundaries. He must also enforce those boundaries when people violate them. This includes friends, family, coworkers, and strangers.
Nowadays, many men feel overwhelmed with the pressures of life: family and work. That's why they should set priorities and trust a higher power.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6
Conclusion
Master these elements to bear the challenges you face and lead fulfilling lives.
Stay strong!
"The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are strong at the broken places." - Ernest Hemingway
