Recommendations for choosing a sheepskin coat

Caring for a sheepskin coat

If you buy a sheepskin coat in a store, it would be a good idea to know a few simple rules that will help you choose a product of good quality and the right size.

Weight

Sacrificing quality for the sake of fashion, manufacturers greatly thin the leather. This affects heat protection, so the thicker and heavier the sheepskin coat, the better it will protect in Russian frosts. The material for sheepskin coats, that is, suede, is obtained from goat and sheep skins by processing. The fur must be thick, and the skin must be thick.

Quality check

Check the front side of the model - run your fingers over the material. If there is a noticeable mark left - congratulations, you have a quality product that has been processed correctly. Threads sticking out in the seams, traces of glue, the smell of chemicals, the presence of scratches and dents mean a defect for any self-respecting manufacturer, such sheepskin coats should not be allowed to be sold. Feel free to refuse the purchase if you find such defects.

Seams

Carefully inspect the seams of the sheepskin coat. They should be evenly stitched, without any fur or folds caught in them. Ideally, the seams under the sleeves and at the pockets will be Men's sheepskin coat. These are the places that bear the most stress when worn.

Fitting

Put the sheepskin coat on thin clothing - a T-shirt or a sweater. Raise one arm up and see how the other shoulder of the sheepskin coat behaves. If it is sewn correctly, it will not rise along with the first. When choosing the style of the sheepskin coat, be sure to make sure that it fits you well, does not restrict movement and is not too loose

Appearance

If at first inspection you notice that the material of the sheepskin coat is wrinkled, you are probably looking at a low-quality fur product. Real, well-treated leather quickly recovers after compression.

Color

To achieve a presentable and respectable image, give preference to restrained colors - brown, black. Bold young people can experiment with bright colors - burgundy, yellow or blue. Do not forget to choose suitable accessories and shoes.

Caring for a sheepskin coat

Each type of men's sheepskin coat requires an individual approach to its care. Therefore, all serious sheepskin coat manufacturers are required to provide their products with special labels, which contain detailed instructions on cleaning and care of the sheepskin coat. Be sure to read this label. Moreover, be sure to save it, because if you decide to take your sheepskin coat to the dry cleaner, you will almost certainly be asked for this label, since incorrectly selected chemicals for professional cleaning can irreparably spoil this not at all cheap product.

However, there are several recommendations applicable to all types of sheepskin coats.

When you take out your sheepskin coat after winter storage, you may notice that it is somewhat wrinkled and does not look as neat as you would like. Bringing a warm item back to life is not difficult: you should lay it out on a flat surface and wait a day or two.

If the frosts came suddenly, and you don’t want to wear a jacket or coat for a few more days, smooth out the dented leather with an iron. It is advisable to carry out the procedure through a white cotton fabric.

In the autumn-winter period, the amount of precipitation increases significantly, which means that the sheepskin coat will get wet sooner or later. In such a situation, the solution is extremely simple: all wet areas must be carefully blotted with a soft dry cloth or paper napkins.

To prevent leather or suede, i.e. the top of the sheepskin coat, from being damaged by your excessive zeal, do not overdo it and rub the wet clothes - just blot them and then let them dry on their own! To do this, hang the sheepskin coat on a hanger and do not hide it in the closet, but find a convenient place away from radiators and other heating devices.

It often happens that a sheepskin coat is still quite suitable for wearing, but its top is worn out, scratches and faded spots have appeared on it. They are removed by applying a thin layer of special dyes and toners - they are sold in many shoe stores.

Places that have been rubbed to a shine can be restored to their former freshness by going over them with a soft eraser or treating them with a paste of talc mixed with ammonia. More serious problems (grease, food stains) are best eliminated by taking the clothes to a dry cleaner, where they use professional products (and be sure to take the label mentioned above with you). This type of care for a sheepskin coat is a great way to extend the life of your favorite item.

Storing a sheepskin coat

No matter how long the winter is in your area, a sheepskin coat should be stored in a closet for at least six months. To ensure that leather or suede, as well as fur, do not lose their original appearance, experts recommend purchasing a special all-fabric cover or an option with polyethylene on one side. Another important point is correctly selected hangers. It is advisable to use the widest hangers possible.

Do not forget that a natural sheepskin coat easily becomes prey to fur or clothes moths. Natural or synthetic protective agents will help protect it from pests. Special sachets, aerosols, scented plates, lavender bunches will do.
