Mental health culture is a SCAM.

You just become a cash cow in the long run.

By AnshrikPublished 2 months ago 2 min read

Mental health is the latest trend- everyone talks about how important it is, how you should seek support if you need it, and you know tips and tricks to make yourself more comfortable in your own psyche.

And its applaudable, its nice to see people showing that they care for others, however superficially.

And I say superficially, as we all know there is a reason that they do it. Who on earth really cares for other humans they do not know about? It's all about the fame, the money and the sponsorships for the younger generation on Tiktok or Instagram. The older generation I cannot comment about.

There are a few that care of course, the number of which has been steadily decreasing. They keep listening to the people's problems, yet often go un-noticed when its their turn. So, combine their own worries, plus the burden of listening to others, which then plays a part into them falling into more mental health worries.

Soon enough, they give up. There is simply a too big ratio of people who care to people who do not care.

Case in point- there are many influencers who sell self-help or self-care routines that are often on the tipping point themselves. On a more personal level- mothers, for example, who look after their family while their own worries go unnoticed. Fathers, for example, whose sacrifices go unnoticed for the integrity of the family.

Look, I don't disagree, people need their own profit. Often times relating to people through mental health is a good way for it. I'm being dead honest. If that feels unethical to you, yes I agree- but there are always 2 sides to the coin.

However, you can minimise how unethical you are with it. Look, if this article goes somehow viral I will make some money off it, yes. But on Vocal, money is not my main goal, I have Substack that I'm trying to build there.

Here, I just want to tell my story, my personal lessons in life that I learnt through hardships, joy, beauty and fitness.

I also want to care, but in a different way. I do not want to be burned out again by listening half-heartedly to too many peoples problems. The solution to this, in my opinion, is a community. Of those who CARE. After all, sometimes the solution is to stand on your own, get yourself heard by people who will listen, with a mutual benefit for both. If this idea appeals to you, we could get a community that supports each other when it gains some traction.

So at the end, I just want to say, if there is someone you vent to, someone you can rely on when you need it, make sure you check up on them as well, as more so than not they have their own worries and trauma they need to open up as well. Don't parade around courses and fake, performative sympathy for recognition. Find a solution, start by checking upon those you know who need it. Make sure.

Sometimes, the best help you can get is neither from an influencer with a quote, nor someone who cares. Often times a community can help- humans were evolved to be social animals after all(I'm still an introvert😂).
