A winter wedding can be a truly beautiful thing. Crisp white snow twinkling in the sunshine, sparkle everywhere and stunning settings make it totally romantic, but there are a few points that you might want to consider when it comes to organising a wedding in the winter months.

To explain further, Andrew Sinclair, the Managing Director of Get Loos has put together some important elements that you might not have thought of in your winter wedding planning.

Keeping warm

Every wedding involves a degree of standing around, especially where the photographs are concerned, so you need to find a way to keep everybody warm and happy. Patio heaters can work well when you are outside, as well as providing blankets for people to put over their knees when they are sat outside. A warm wedding party always tends to be a happier wedding party.

Make sure there are also ways for people to keep dry if the rain comes, and perhaps consider having an alternative plan if the weather really gets in the way of what you originally wanted. A winter wedding will require you to be a little more flexible than normal as anything can happen!

Stay lit

Winter means that it can get dark very early, so you will have more considerations where lighting is concerned. Visit your venue after dark to see what it looks like when it is all lit up and plan any extra fairy lights or candles that you might want to add. These lights can have a wonderful warming effect and can transform your venue into something really magical.

Facilities

If you are having a large wedding, there is sure to come a point where there is a queue for the toilet, which can prove unpopular. Hiring portable toilets is a great way to make your wedding accessible for everyone, no matter where you are and give everyone the convenience that they want. They can be positioned somewhere safe and discreet and can even incorporate baby changing and disabled access.

Decorations

It is likely that your venue will be all decked out for Christmas when you get married, but possibly not when you book the wedding, so ask to see pictures of what it will look like. You need to make sure that the decorations fit your style and taste and ensure that you won’t find a 10-foot Christmas tree somewhere that you were not expecting.

Check your dates

Normally, most couples find they have to book their dates around football fixtures or significant birthdays, but you might have Christmas or New Year to contend with. Try to take into consideration the travel plans of your guests as they might be further away from home than usual or lacking in babysitters.

Flowers

Your choice of flowers for the big day will also need careful thought. Flowers which are out of season may be more expensive and harder to get hold of than traditional winter blooms. Some flowers are also likely to be affected by the cold and could close up or wilt during the day, so talk to your florist about what will work. You can create some wonderful festive designs using twigs, berries, holly and mistletoe for something seasonal but equally beautiful.

Whatever you decide to do for your wedding, make sure that it is whatever makes you both happy. Think carefully about how the weather can impact on you day and try to plan in advance to take a lot of unnecessary stress out of the day itself. Remember: smile, enjoy it and take in every moment as it will lash by quicker than you ever thought could be possible.
