Might be easier than you thought.

Ever since Covid-19 took the world by surprise in the beginning of 2020 it really changed the world. The virus was spreading so fast that many countries implemented national lockdowns. That meant that you could only go outside for imperative reasons. Many of us including myself living in France went through a nationwide lockdown. At first, this was a shock for a lot of people since it had never been done before on such a large scale.

Initially, most of us thought this would not last long. Not working, nor studying and just lazing at home, right? That's what it seemed like early on, you would just stay in your bed and only leave it to eat. Other people had to focus on their studies or had to work via teleworking. But, for most people we had a lot of new free time on our hands.

Personally, I never worked out or went to the gym in my life. I would just play soccer but because of the pandemic I couldn't practice. I was very bored during this lockdown so I decided, "Hey, what happens if I start working out?". But the question was how do I even start?

Starting to workout in 2020 is probably the easiest thing you can do thanks to the amazing tool of the Internet. Anyone can just go on the App Store or the Play Store and download an app. Most apps are pretty good, the one I use is the first one that pops up! I have no equipment at my house to workout so all the exercices I do, do not require any equipment! Most of these apps ask for your height and weight to suggest exercices that correspond you best.

I wanted to work on my chest area so I went on my app and found different chest exercices, the one that I used only lasted 10 minutes. I had never worked on my chest in my entire life so I had absolutely no foundations. These exercices were very good because they didn't take up a lot of my time so even if you had to do school work, or even normal work, you could take a 10 minute break and start working out! Although, these exercices were very short, they really showed progress! The exercices I did were only push ups, there are all types of them (Hindu, Wide arm, staggered...) and these really helped me out! In only 3 months of working out just twice a week major progress was made.

I only worked one part of my body because I only wanted to work one part. (You can work as many as you want as long as you have the time and the motivation!) With my extra free time left I used it to learn how to eat better, and understanding the muscles I worked. If you have a lot of free time and don't want to feel bad spending it on your phone binge watching your favorite TV show I have a good plan for you! Pick one or more muscles you want to work on and find a short 10 minute routine that you like and do it twice a week. Working out really makes you feel "useful" and makes you feel proud of yourself.

During this lockdown, many gyms were closed so most gym heads had to find creative ways to keep fit at home. But for most people who don't workout, it has never been easier to workout at home! By simply downloading an app, putting at least 20 minutes a week on a regular basis on a certain muscle, you will see progress. I really recommend working out, even if it's not to become super buff or drinking huge amounts of protein ; if you have a lot of free time, work out! Your confidence will improve, you will be happier overall and you will use your free time for something that really benefits you in the long run. (Yes sadly we all get old one day...)
