What is Reiki?
A simple explanation of this energy healing modality.

What is Reiki? And what is the difference between in-person and distance Reiki treatments?
Reiki is a kind, non-invasive energy healing modality in which the practitioner acts as a channel, or conduit, for universal healing energy to enter the client’s energy body to bring balance and healing to the client. The practitioner places their hands a few inches above the client’s body, and if the clients are comfortable with light touch, the practitioner may place their hands on certain energy centers (chakras) to release blockages and create balance in the client’s energy body (sometimes called the aura).
This energy is pure, univeral, loving, and healing energy. It connects us all, and is very beneficial for each and every person.
Some benefits of Reiki treatments include:
-Deep relaxation
-Reduced stress response in the body
-Feelings of well being and calmness
-Reduction of physical pain
-Helps alleviate mental distress
-Helps client work through trauma
-Reduces healing time for physical injury
-Improves mental clarity
Before an in-person Reiki session begins, your practitioner will speak with you about what to expect from your session, and what you would like to accomplish.
The sessions may vary in length, from 15-20 minutes, up to 90 minutes. It all depends on what your needs are, and what is agreed upon between yourself and your Reiki practitioner.
Afterwards, most practitioners will share with you what blockages, if any, they may have found, as well as any other energetic and/or physical information they've intuitively picked up during your session. Some choose to take detailed notes and answer any questions you may have at the end of your session.
During a distance treatment, a Reiki healer will work on the same things they work on during an in-person treatment, but in this case, they are working in their physical location while you are receiving treatment at your seperate location. Energy work is unique in that it takes place in the quantum field in which we all exist. This is why time and distance between practitioner and client do not make a difference in the effectiveness of the treatment.
Before a distance session begins, your practitioner may contact you by text or phone call to let you know they are about to begin.Or if you have an agreed upon start time, they may just get to work, knowing that you are expecting treatement at that time. You can meditate or pray, lie down and rest, take a nap, or even go about your normal business while a distance Reiki session is taking place.
On their end, your Reiki practitioner will connect with you energetically, mentally, and spiritually so they can see your energy body and your chakras (energy centers) and address any blockages, stagnant energy, or sluggish energy flow.
All Reiki healers work differently, but some may call and speak with you about your session, while others may send you a detailed email with session notes and be available to discuss your session further should you have any questions.
Reiki is not tied to any particular religious belief system. It is pure, loving, healing energy that is always with us, and always has been. Your Reiki practitioner is simply a channel for the Reiki to flow through. This energy is also non-invasive, unable to cause harm, and is intelligent, flowing where in your body it is needed. Reiki is a gentle healing art, and appropriate for any person at any age or level of health.
Reiki sessions vary as far as pricing, based on the education and/or skill level of your practitioner, as well as where the session takes place. (Fancier spa locations can be pricier than a private Reiki studio, for instance.)
Most Reiki practitioners are pretty approachable and kind people, so don't be hesitant to reach out to them if you're curious about Reiki or if you have never had a session and simply want to know more.
Speaking for myself, Reiki has changed my life. Getting treatments, as well as becoming certified as a Reiki practitioner has changed the trajectory of my life to a more healing and positive path. I love Reiki, and I think if you give it a try, you might just fall in love with it, too.
