A smartphone, tablet, and or any of these device may not be the perfect gift you need after all.
Yes, you heard me right!
Let me tell you why.
Not too long ago, there was first the discussion about how watching television and the likes may affect our sight. Then, it was about emission of rays from the screen being bad for sight. Such as radioactivity was extensively dissected. Its effects and how those rays might damage the eye were discussed.
The focus then was not only on the eye, but also the ear too. It was argued that sounds from our television, if too loud, may affect the eardrum. Little was also talked about on weight. This is because, according to the believe, sitting for too long in front of the TV does not allow for much movement around and thus there is high possibility of weight gain when you sit in front of the Television for too long, without moving around.
Interestingly, other parts of our body such as our bone is also a subject of debate now. From research, it was gathered that our bones adapt to our different lifestyles. From the kind of food we eat to the kind of activities we engage in, especially physically, all have either positive or negative impacts on our body postures.
When a human body is exposed to let’s say carrying of heavy weight daily and or periodically, you sure can expect toned muscles as the bones in that body is shaped by that lifestyle. The same thing goes for when we sit in a kind of posture all day, say like bending our back for a long time due to work or by just not maintaining a good standing and or sitting posture. After a long while, the bone on that back will adapt to looking bent. Sometimes people get hunch backs from this posture!
There is a general observation that our phones and small devices are somewhat shaping our bones. How, you may ask. There is especially a way most young people fix their gaze on their devices when using it. You will agree with me that Phones and other small device users bend their necks almost all day long and so you see a lot of us looking like we have hunch backs while working and or sitting, not to talk of the series of neck pain you get every now and then during or after using your devices.
Aside the neck pain, their is also the text thumb or numb that you get, where sometimes your thumb hurts from too much texting! Phones and other telecommunications devices are beautiful gifts to mankind and I salute the giver of wisdom that give this wisdom to men for us to be able to invent such.
There is beauty in every gift. But I also believe there is pain too. A good example is child bearing. It is a beautiful thing but it has its own pain.
Every part of our body is a gift. It is our duty to take care of it, most especially while navigating through all necessary evil.
Indeed, our phones and devices are part of our necessary evil.
Deciding not to spend too much time using these devices and most importantly maintaining a good posture while using these devices are some of the ways we take care of our body but the fact still remains; we put a lot of pressure on our neck and our back while using them.
So am I saying using or having these devices is bad? Heck no.
All I’m saying is, it comes with a price.
It is one of the pains of being human.
