Coronavirus And Its Impact On The World

By Lisa BenjaminPublished 6 years ago 4 min read

The global impact of Coronavirus is just so horrifying and absolutely unbelievable. But believe it one must, what with all the horrible things that are happening all over the world – and all because of this killer virus! Who would believe that a thing unseen, can now threaten to obliterate the entire world – down to the very last few thousand or hundred people perhaps? Time only will tell, as to how many of the mighty human race, will survive the killer Coronavirus!

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Coronavirus outbreak as a global pandemic!

How Did Coronavirus Get Its Name?

For weeks after the outbreak of the dreaded virus in the month of December 2019, the virus was called 2019-nCoV or the ‘novel Coronavirus.

But then on February 11, 2020, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the WHO, gave a name to the Coronavirus, when he declared:

“We now have a name for the disease: COVID-19. I’ll spell it: C-O-V-I-D hyphen one nine—COVID-19.”

But, the virus does not care that it has a name, whether it is a new name or an old name or whether it even has a name. The virus is hell bent on destroying the world and it has had a very bad effect on the world – by way of taking human lives and severely affecting the way humans live – and almost crushing global, economies!

Coronavirus And Its Impact On The World

Some of the countries that have closed their borders include the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Greece, South Africa, Egypt, Italy, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore and many more countries are closing their borders with each passing day.

• Schools Close All Over The World: More and more schools all over the world are closing. As on today, all over the globe, around 300 million kids are not going to school. • Global Tourism Industry In Doldrums: Tourism all over the world has taken a huge hit. People are no longer travelling anywhere and even if they wanted to, they would not be able to do so, as there are no flights and countries have closed their borders.

Can you afford to risk standing or sitting near to someone and letting them cough or sneeze into your face? By doing so, you could be signing your own death warrant. Of course, you would want to use a face mask to protect yourself against the killer virus. But the big problem here is that the right kind of mask that is required to protect against the killer virus, is hard to get – as they are not easy to make. The reason for this shortage is the big demand for these masks by medical staff, as well as the general populace. And another reason for the shortage of these masks is because of the material used in the making of these masks – a material known as melt-blown fabric. Because of the tremendous demand of these masks, there is a big shortage of this material.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, speaking in Geneva, said that governments are not doing all that is required to fight this pandemic and he urged that governments should step up their testing programmes.

He added:

"You can't fight a fire blindfolded and we can't stop this pandemic if we don't know who is infected. We have a simple message for all countries: test, test, test."
