Tarot Reading for Beginners
From what Tarot is to getting your first deck.

Tarot cards are a universal tool when it comes to the intuition. With everyone becoming more aware of the energies around them, Tarot cards have also gained a spotlight that is more positive than the ones they have had in the past.
If you have come across this post, it is likely that you are interested in at least understanding what Tarot is, what it takes to read Tarot, and what will happen once you get your first deck.
Well, I am happy to be one of many aids in your journey. I have been practicing Tarot for 4 years and have mentored a few people in their beginning journey with the cards.
Please keep in mind, Tarot is a very personal experience, and these are my opinions that are based on my personal experience with Tarot. I may go against other avid readers. This is why I fully encourage reading what others Tarot readers have to say about the practice, and to never take anyone’s words as the “sole-truth” to Tarot.
Let’s begin!
What is Tarot?
To put it simply: Tarot cards are intuitive tools to give information on many different aspect of life. This includes but is not limited to future telling, important messages about the present, past life information, advice, warnings, etc.
One thing that I firmly believe but is open to conversation: Tarot cards are a way to communicate with the other side.
This could mean your spirit guides/angels, the Christian God, other gods/goddesses, past loved ones, and so forth. Who you are connecting with is up to you and what you feel is right in your soul.
Notice I said Christian God. I will be making a post about how Christians can use Tarot cards and still abide by the Bible. Link: SOON
Getting Your First Deck
There is a belief that your first Tarot deck must be gifted to you... I don’t believe that. Here’s why:
I bought my first deck.
My mom’s friend came over with her decks when I was 19 years old, and I was so intrigued I wanted to start reading Tarot with my own deck that very moment. So I hoped on Amazon, search Tarot decks and began my hunt for the perfect deck for me.
I can still hear my mom’s friend taunt me, “Your first deck needs to be a Rider Waite.” Which makes sense, because these are the original depictions of the cards. But I didn’t do that either. None of them called to me in my search.

After two days of scrolling through Amazon and googling decks that peaked my interest, I finally found my deck: The Linestrider Tarot.

When I tell you that the moment I got that deck out of the box and in my hands I had tears rolling down my face, I meant it. I never felt so aligned with something bigger than me before. It was magical.
After 7 decks, she is still the deck I go to for my personal readings.
So in my opinion, buy your first deck. And buy whatever deck your soul calls to.
Learning Placements and Card Meanings
Now that you have a simplified understanding of what Tarot is, and have ordered your first deck. It's time to learn.
There are so, so, SO many different spreads you can choose from. Each spread has so many different placement meanings. It can be overwhelming to a budding Tarot reader.
The most popular and requested spreads are the Celtic Cross and three card pull.

The best way to learn is to watch other readers give readings. Hop on YouTube, search Tarot readings and go wild.
Here are the readers myself and other readers I know love and learned a lot from:
Watching how a variety of other readers practice and read is educational in the aspect that you can pick and choose what works for you.
Remember: There is no "true" way to read Tarot. As long as your intentions are pure and you have a basic understanding of the cards meanings, you'll do just fine!
Things to Remember
Tarot is NOT a party trick. It is a real entity that you are getting the messages from, and if he/she/it/they feel as if you are using their knowledge for tangible gain, they will play with your intuition and reading. Which is super embarrassing!
The message will resonate with the read-ey however it resonates. Even if you know it was saying one thing, and they took it a completely different way.. there's nothing you can do about it besides thank the energies.
YOU CAN SAY NO! If you are being called to deliver a message you are uncomfortable with, or if someone who seems off wants a reading, you can say you do not want to give the reading.
Set guidelines for the entity you receive messages from and for your read-ey. You will not be disrespecting anyone when you do. You will be disrespecting yourself if you don't. Which is NOT the point of Tarot.
Have fun! Tarot is exciting. It allows you to gain knowledge and be able to grow in ways that you can't even imagine right now as a beginner.
Summary
Tarot reading is a personal practice. There is no right way to practice.
To get started just follow these easy steps:
1. Get a Deck
2. Study meanings, spreads and placements
3. Watch other readers on Youtube
4. Have Fun!
Tarot reading has changed my, and so many others, lives for the better. Since I started my journey 4 years ago, I have a better understanding for life and existence. From life to death, personal and spiritual growth, and just anything and everything. This isn't just my testimony though. So many others have the same experience. I hope that you do too!
