Struggling with Weightloss

A seemingly never ending journey

By Samantha BairstowPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

At school I was sporty, not quite athletic as such but loved games like volley ball (Beach volley ball mainly), Cricket, Tennis just to name a few. I certainly wasn't a skinny person but more stocky, loved being outdoors and on the little farm the school had. I was of a somewhat healthy weight, always been on the larger side of things.

In 2007 after i had graduated from high school I set out to find what i wanted to do, still young and naïve, I did decide that i was going to do something involving horses. I started working for a trainer in Ascot and with all the walking i was doing the weight started to disappear. I got down to about 90kgs and then I had an accident, which resulted in me tearing my ACL ligament.

Thankfully I didn't have to wait long for surgery maybe a month or so. I ended up having to resign from my job as a stable hand as the risk of me hurting my knee was to high. About May/June 2010 I went into surgery, they fixed me up and sent me home the next day.

Well after the recovery period I then struggled to find work, that's when the weight started to pile on. Before i knew it i was border line 116kgs (my heaviest at the time) and was feeling rather depressed about it. So my brother got me to join a gym and we would go together most days. I started seeing a Personal Trainer and it wasn't long I saw the results, I felt the results.

I then found work at Piggery but ended up having to give up going to the gym as is was a fair distance to get there and back. And again stopped going to the gym made me put the weight back on.

I can't remember what weight i got back up to but started to slowly put more and more weight on and I had no idea why. my eating was OK, I was being active. It was only last year that I decided to go to the doctors (after having tried pretty much everything) and he has diagnosed me with PCOS.

Well now with the correct diet, and exercising at least 3 times a week i can slowly see things are changing my heaviest weight was 135kg and i have lost 2kgs so far since the beginning of the year.

My ultimate goal I would like to get back down to at least 85kgs, but i am going to set myself small achievable goals like losing 5kgs before the end of February. That way I set myself for more chance of succeeding then failing.

I am hoping that anyone reading this will be inspired to keep trying as I know its certainly a long road and my journey is only just beginning, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel :)
