Low Self-Esteem and Weight Loss Issues Faced by Modern Women

For a lot of women, losing weight is high on the list of expectations, and there are three main ways to do it.

I think we all know by now that it isn’t easy being “pretty”. It’s even more difficult to understand what being “pretty” means for a woman. A pretty woman is tan, and sometimes as pale as porcelain. She wears a lot of makeup, but you’re not supposed to see it. She has wide hips, a large bust and, most importantly, she is extremely skinny.

With these kinds of expectations, it’s no wonder that women sometimes go through drastic means to feel “pretty”. It’s difficult to love yourself when it feels like the world won’t.

There’s nothing wrong with a beautiful woman appearing on television, but when it’s only a certain type of woman we see it creates an expectation. We see this in commercials with gorgeous women eating hamburgers. Ads featuring slim women trying to lose weight.

Dieting

Diet pills and other diet products are an extremely lucrative market, and as a result, they can be rather expensive. The most important thing about dieting should be your health. When looking into diet pills, read the ingredients.

Some pills can do things like increasing your metabolism and curb your appetite. Focus on adding more vitamins and nutrients to your diet when using these kinds of products. There are as many helpful guides to healthy dieting as there are diet pills.

The problem with dieting is when to stop. Some women turn to anorexia, where they starve their bodies for extended periods of time. The best diets encourage healthy eating habits and a healthy frame of mind.

Exercise

Gyms are becoming more and more common, and a lot are placing emphasis on body acceptance. Planet Fitness specifically focuses on anti-bullying in their gyms. Finding the time to go to the gym, and finding the motivation to do so can be difficult. Even in places where body acceptance is important to the company, it’s easy to feel self-conscious.

However, consistent exercise can lead to more lasting results when trying to lose weight. The important thing here is routine. Not only will building a routine help get your body into shape, it creates healthy habits. For someone with a negative body image, treating your body well is important.

Surgery

Women who turn to liposuction are sometimes seen as “lazy” or “superficial”. Certainly, surgery shouldn’t be taken lightly, but having a negative body image doesn’t mean you’re “lazy”. It can be expensive, and it can be risky, as all surgeries can be. However, a negative body image can also be risky.

For someone who grew up hating their body, weight loss could save their life. Dieting and exercising are important, but building healthy habits when you’ve developed a love-hate relationship with food isn’t easy.

Many clinics offer surgeries designed specifically for large amounts of weight loss, and surgeries that help alleviate the leftover excess skin associated with heavy weight loss. It’s important to remember that a single surgery doesn’t guarantee your body type forever. However, it’s easier to love your body and want to take care of it when you feel better about it.

Dramatic weight loss, and maintaining weight, come along with creating a healthier body image. There are a ton of unrealistic expectations placed on women, but there are realistic options. Learn about what options you have, and find out what works best for you. And remember: you don’t have to be a hot woman in a Hardy’s commercial to love yourself.
