How Your Diet Is Causing Your Acne

How Your Gut and Your Skin Are Connected

Certain foods and beverages can cause clogged pores, which cause acne. If you don't know what these foods are you likely to make the mistake of eating them often. Your favorite foods might be the thing that is causing your acne. You can try different methods to get rid of your acne, but what needs to change is your diet. You can read about the foods and beverages that cause acne here.

Sugar

Studies have shown that sugar clogs pores and increases insulin levels. Both of which cause acne and worsen acne for people who already have it. You don't walk around eating sugar every day, and you don't have to be to consume it. Sugar is in your favorite foods in drinks. If you read the labels on sodas you drink and snacks you eat they have high percentages of sugar. For the people who drink sugar every day, this is an eye-opener because you know what is causing your acne. For your skin's health, you need to cut back on sodas as much as possible.

Fast Food

Fast food is convenient and affordable, but it is unhealthy. Fast foods contain high levels of fat, calories, and refined carbs. Refined carbs turn into sugar, which is unhealthy for your skin. High-fat diets increase the hormone level, and high hormone levels increase the risks of getting acne. You notice that teenagers have acne more often than adults. They don't have time to prepare meals during their busy school schedules. Eating fast food becomes more regular for them. It may work with your schedule and budget as a teen but not with your acne. It may benefit you at the moment, but it will cause more harm than good.

Alcohol

Alcohol should be something you enjoy every once in a while. When you start drinking it, regularly it causes problems including acne. Alcohol also increases hormone levels, and we know this is unhealthy for your skin. You don't have to stop drinking alcohol forever. You should take a break from it until your acne clears up. When you see a difference, you can start drinking it again but not as much as you were before. The reason the alcohol caused acne is that you were drinking it too much.

Salt

Consuming salt clogs your pores. Salt isn't something people think can cause acne because everyone uses it. Again it's not that you used the salt, it's how much you use. Everyone does use salt to season food. Overusing salt can cause dehydrated skin, which can also contribute to acne.

Preventing Acne

There are foods that you can consume that can reduce acne. Low glycemic foods like most fruits and non-starchy vegetables can help prevent acne. Other ways to prevent acne is to have a skincare routine and moisturize your face. Moisturizing your face every day, keeps your skin hydrated promoting healthy skin. You should do your skincare routine every night before bed. You are cleaning your face of all dirt or excess makeup from the day by doing so.

Conclusion

Knowing what foods are causing your acne is the start. The rest of the work has to be done by you. Cut back on the foods and beverages or stop consuming them altogether. You don't have to give them up. You need a break from them to allow your skin to get healthy again. Use this as a guide to getting rid of your acne. Give it a try and see what happens. Make sure, along with changing your diet. You do other things to promote healthy skin, like a skincare routine.
