How To Measure Happiness
Measures of happiness have not changed much over the past 3000 years
Technology has changed, but human nature has not changed, people have been unhappy, lonely, miserable, and sad since the beginning of modern civilization, and we have been thinking this way for centuries, and if you think the same way, I can tell you that it is wrong, traditional thinking about happiness means that other things or people are the sources of our happiness, have you ever thought So why do we think that something should make us happy I think this is the biggest problem with happiness, so why do we continue to associate happiness with external things, such as work, love, money
“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”― Ralph Waldo Emerson
When to be happy
Is it when you have a job you like, a good relationship with your partner, or a lot of money But what happens when you get bored with your job Or when your relationship gets bad Or when your money is not enough I wrote about how to pursue benefit instead of happiness when you make yourself useful, you feel happy, and most people have understood this idea; because it holds us responsible for achieving happiness ourselves.
But this raised an important question: “How do I know that I am happy?”It’s a question you can only ask when you think about this concept on a deeper level, as you can see most of us never think about measuring happiness, or assume that we know how to measure it; we can set our career goals, work, relationships, health, and make these things measurable, and yet we don’t measure the only thing that makes all these things worthwhile; our happiness.
Do not rely on external factors for your happiness:
This is the only measure of my happiness; I ask myself, “Am I relying on something or someone to make me happy?”If I want my answer to be “no,” here’s an example of what I mean:
- I love my job, but it doesn’t make me happy.
- I love my family, but they don’t make me happy.
- I love my partner, but she doesn’t make me happy.
- I’m just happy.
Life is too short to let it cause you suffering, we cannot put our happiness in the hands of others, happiness is a state of mind, and it is completely under your control, just as you can decide to do something useful with your time, you can decide that you are happy.
“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”
― William Faulkner
In conclusion:
The one who says:” but nothing in my life makes me happy, “ is a person who thinks in the old way that it’s easy to blame others or circumstances; I always meet people who say that the world is an evil place, yes people are being wronged, some people are evil, I’m not going to say that these things don’t happen, but is this within your control?” No; so stop exaggerating and don’t let other things make you unhappy, it’s time to stop being pessimistic, remember you don’t need a reason to be happy, and all you have to do is decide to be happy.
