Mirror Dragon Tarot

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card this week is The Chariot.

The Chariot is a perfect card to have at the center this week as it represents the movement of the sun into the water sign of Cancer as it transits through the summer solstice. Also representative of water, the Charioteer shows us the mastery of conscious control of unconscious drives. Water is the symbol of our emotions, our intuition and our empathy. In this card we see the Charioteer’s ability to recognize the influence our unconscious drives have within our lives and with that understanding, is able to guide the energy of those drives towards intentional outcomes. There is great wisdom in the recognition of the “humanity” we all experience. The deeper, baser desires we so often judge as bad, wrong or unexceptable. Terms like “boys don’t cry”, “get your head out of the clouds and stop dreaming” and “an angry woman is an ugly woman” may show us what our environment finds socially acceptable but they also severely limit our human ability to grow emotionally and intellectually. Going forward with the knowledge that many of the socially unacceptable emotional experiences we have, when guided towards intentional ends, are actually quite healthy, not to mention effective.

The West card is The Devil.

Aha! So here we are faced with a deep desire to get down deep into those “human”, base, materialistic and decidedly unspiritual drives and feelings. The Devil shows us how we lie to ourselves. While we get tangled up in the desire to look good at any cost, step on others to get our way or feel strong and superior, cheat, steal or manipulate, the Devil’s focus on materiality grows in power and leads us by the nose to squash our higher instincts. Often we have a distinct voice in the back of our minds telling us that what we’re doing will bring us discomfort or disillusionment but we feel the pull to do it anyway. This is where The Chariot is a very valuable player in our week ahead. The opportunity to see the mechanism involved in our choices allows us to rise above and mindfully take the higher path, to refuse to be pulled down to the lower energy of greed, fear, manipulation or subversion.

The East card is the 7 of Wands.

The sevens of the Tarot are naturally unbalanced and give us the chance to shift our priorities and deal with tough situations by changing how we handle them. As we work with the powerful energies of our two Major Arcana cards, this seven gives us a passionate strength to stand up for our ideals. Here we find integrity in using our fire and determination to break existing patterns that have kept us tied to unworkable methods. We may find that we need to use the heat of passion to burn our way out of a tough position. As long as we hold our integrity in as bright a flame, we should be okay. It may take determination but that powerful intent to change things up helps us find and restore balance in extreme situations.

In Conclusion:

This week we may find ourselves tempted to fall back on less than honorable ways of dealing with situations we find uncomfortable or unacceptable. It’s really part of the human experience to have base (maybe even deplorable) thoughts and/or actions. The good news is the energy of The Chariot shows us ways to be conscious of how we may fall into unscrupulous actions so we can make the choice to interject honorable intentions while still using the effective means of powerful, emotional responses.

Have a passionate week.

Light, Tory

TIP for the week: Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It burns it all clean. MAYA ANGELOU
