Mirror Dragon Tarot
Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.
That said;
The Center card this week is The Hermit.
In the image on the card we see the central sun as a lantern or beacon lighting the way forward. The Hermit carries the light of inner wisdom guiding a path through temptations and desires of a baser nature. In this way he is able to illuminate the differences and choices we face between earthly desires and higher vibrational options of a spiritual kind. In other words, under the influence of the Hermit we are aware of the choices that may satisfy our cravings but in the long run could be detrimental to us. As an example; you’re offered a better position at work simply because your boss likes you more than others that are being considered even though you may not have the experience or seniority to do the job well. In the short term, you get more pay, more responsibility and perhaps even others to work under you. However, because of your lack of experience, you aren’t able to effectively manage the job or the staff at your disposal. In the long run, you show that you weren't really the best choice for the position and that can have a negative effect on your reliability and respect as well as your ability to hold the position itself. With the Hermit there is often the implication of sacrifice, though the wisdom of the card shows us that we can choose a less desirable short term option to insure long term success. Put more simply, you might really want that extra “one for the road” but the longer term positive effect would be a safe ride home, no jail time and no hangover.
The west card is the Princess of Pentacles.
With this card we see a renewed sense of comfort, a feeling of confidence in projects or ideas that we’ve been thinking about or working on. This princess is earthy and receptive, open to possibilities. She is appreciative of support, guidance and the grounding influence of experienced advice. Her ideas feel right, they feel immanently doable but she’s not so stubborn in her own view of how to bring them to life that she refuses help. She is also determined and willing to do whatever work is required for her plans to be made reality. For this week her strong "just do it!" influence is a great balance for the wise Hermit as she is completely open to the advice of others.
The East card is the Princess of Wands.
By week’s end we find that we have the fiery determination to take the combination of our ideas, shaped by our inner knowing to a satisfying conclusion. It's obvious to us that there’s a bigger picture that we can access as we implement our plans. We see that if we move forward mindfully and open to guidance our ideas take on a greater life than we first thought. This sparks the curiosity and excitement that easily drives us onward. Another aspect of this Princess is her tendency to assert her will and intentions clearly and with a passion that is often contagious so pay attention to the excitement you generate around you. It can be a great incentive.
In Conclusion;
We may find that this week feels a bit push-me-pull-you with the strong pull of the Hermit’s energy to access and listen to our inner wise self before moving cautiously to gather all the information needed before we act on our passionate desires. On the other hand, we feel confident that what we’ve learned, thought up or created is good and right and deserving of attention and support. The cool thing about both of the princesses is that they go forth with open eyes and open arms ready to embrace whatever options are available to bring their ideas into reality. With the wise balance of the Hermit what we end up with is likely to be well planned and executed.
Have a cautiously exciting week.
Light, Tory
TIP for the week; I can but entreat you to remember it is only by preserving faith in human dreams that we may, after all, perhaps some day make them come true. James Branch Cabell (1917)
