Day 7: COVID-19 BY MY LONESOME

Chronicles of an empty-nester, sheltering in place with just her mind, and her dog.

DAY 7

For starters, Day 5 & 6 weren't approved due to lack of word connect, so there you go. Story of my life. Day 7 is definitely much better! Haaaaa.

Started my day off early, back on my dining room desk at 7:40 am. Ironically, the rest of my team/world didn't come alive until much later. Yes, they were working, but clearly, we're all dragging while we drink coffee and try to cope.

I trucked along with work, sending emails to parents about their child's acceptance into summer programming.....but found myself adding a caveat. Jeez. We are continuing on, as a public school, as though life will miraculously continue at some point. And it will! In the meantime, we all wait with bated breath as to what is real and what is not real. Ugh. I did enjoy, though, my conversations with parents.

Around 2 pm, I decided I probably shouldn't be wearing yesterday's sweats with my melted peanut butter on my sweatshirt. It was then that Fed Ex's third attempt delivery arrived with my order. Unfortunately, Fed Ex won. I answered the door, peanut butter, and all. I did give him a little rousing, though. "Were you the one that attempted my second delivery yesterday, because I was inside the door in my recliner and you never knocked!" "No Ma'am (don't call me ma'am!!!), I was off yesterday." And that is what shuts down one's anger. Ugh.

After a non-happening Team's voice call and a much anticipated Fed Ex delivery (say what?), I hopped in the shower. Only to come out of the shower to find 9 missed Team calls. If this isn't the definition of Murphy's Law, I don't know what is. Anyhoo, come to find out I shouldn't have been on the call in the first place. Note to self (and OTHERS): create a new group for just the peeps that should be on the call.

I finished up my workday and got super excited to have two of my friends over (they are a couple). We planned a safe backyard BBQ. I lit the grill, formed my burger patties, disinfected the tray holding the buns, mayo, ketchup, etc., and then disinfected the bottles and bags. This requires serious concentration. I'm going to be brain-fried before COVID-19 is over! But, my highlight of the day was preparing for their arrival. Remember, I have all the "equipment." One of each. Before their arrival, I donned my hazmat suit, goggles, mask, and gloves. When they said they were leaving their house, I hid on my back porch, waiting for them. Thirty minutes is sooooo long. WTF? They finally pulled up, entered the backyard gate, and out I popped!!!!! We laughed SOOOOO HAAARRRRD! Courtney even taught Chris how to snip my head from a selfie and add it to the pic I took of them (we have a standing tradition of Monday Night Supper Selfies......this time modified). We had so much fun, and I genuinely love them. Great peeps. See the image above. Haaaaa!

Then, I had a thirty-minute phone call with my second ex-husband. We finally reached the point where we can just be friends. It took him a lot longer (basically until he met someone else after 2+ years), but it was nice to talk and remove all that bullshit! Know what I'm talking about? The bummer was that by the time we reached talking about our kids, it went south! Thus, he hung up on me. People! Is that really necessary??? Baby steps, though.

Finally, my boss asked me today to take on a "huge project!" I don't know what it is, but I do know it has something to do with MPS's mandatory daycare for kids of first responders and healthcare workers. I think I'm going to like this.

P.S. I sprayed the hell out of my house after Chris and Courtney left! There's something very gratifying about spraying the hell out of a place!
