By some estimates up to 90% of all disease result from taking wrong foods, and 80-85 percent of illnesses can be cured simply by changing diet. Dietitian,GOVERNMENT approved sterilization dietitian, and governmental agencies all across this country are advocating that individuals living in a high-tech, information-based society such as America change their diet.
This is nothing new, of course. Man was and is a omnivore and eats both plants and animals. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense!
During most of history man's diet consisted of plants (fruits and vegetables aside from seeds and nuts) and meats as in pay the farm workers and those providing the city with food.
Only recently has man discovered that grains and legumes (beans and peas) are more easily digestible. These foods are easily absorbed and cause the same levels of insulin and blood sugar swings as refined carbohydrates.
Conservatives in mass-produced foods are problematized with processing and preservation. The mass production of food serves only large companies, the powerful few who can afford to Undermine food quality in order to stretch their inexpensive, mass-produced product.
It has been taken quite a bit to get where we are today. The last thing any of us wants is to be another statistic of the steady increase in cancers, and diabetes and all the health issues that go along with it.
Getting back to a simple, natural diet would be a nice way to at least slow (and maybe even make permanent) some of these developments.
Natural menus have been created by lots of very smart people. with explicable diets, and eating for particular purposes (protein, grains, vegetarian, pregnant, active, and more) and adapted to specific needs and goals.
A key recognized expert on diet and nutrition changed her tune and gave the Stick diet the cold shoulder. She recommended altering the diet instead to eat more fish and shellfish (lots of seafood).
She recommended more whole grains, especially brown rice--the most nutritionally-dense grain available. She recommended more water (at least 6 cups a day), and stressed the importance of daily exercise.
I have been reading Margery Hils chalk outline of how things used to be and how we used to eat--and it makes my eyes roll at how ignorant most of us are about what we're eating and how it affects us.
There are so many things we don't know about, but I bet you like knowing that you're in the right place to get the right information.
I'm going toistle it up a notch and tell you about a meal I had the other day that might change the way you look at food. It's nothing fancy, but it's a simple meal that's very good for you.
It's called the Sweet N' Sour, and it's a great meal for any of us... anytime.
You're going to love this... it's just a piece of cake! (and it tastes great, trust me!)
This recipe is super easy to make, takes just 15 minutes to cook and is oh so good for you.
1 cup unsalted butter, allowance for a half teaspoon of salt, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg, 2 cloves garlic, 1/4 teaspoon each of ground pepper and nutmeg, 1 cup wheat spaghetti, 1/4 cup skim milk, 2 teaspoons oregano, basil, parsley, 1 teaspoon half teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 medium yellow bell pepper, 2 cups sliced onions, 3 cups cooked pinto beans, 3 cups sliced tomato, 1 cup chopped fresh cilantro, 1 Teaspoon lemon juice, a few black pepper (optional)
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
melting butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat causes the butter to melt.
Add the sugar, egg, garlic cloves, pepper, nutmeg and citrus zest to the pan and fry until the sugar dissolves.
Remove from the heat and stir in the spaghetti.
Mix in the rest of the ingredients.ergredients.
Spaghetti and beans make a popular supper during the evening. Often, I add fresh cilantro to the Spaghetti (along with the Spaghetti and cans of Garlic Sauce) for added flavor and nutritional value.
This recipe makes a large enough portion for 2 or 3 meals and can keep in the refrigerator up to one week.
hitting the kitchen will let me know that I have a craving for dessert. I'm such a sweets fiend.
I promise I'll make it only once in a while.
As you can see, this is a simple and nutritious supper that's easy enough for even the busiest of us (with a little discipline!) and will give us the kick-start we need to start our day with proper nutrition.
