Burning calories and burning fat can often be used interchangeably, but they are slightly different in their definition. Calories are a measure of energy found in food and drinks, as well as being a way to measure energy expenditure during exercise. Fat is stored energy, so burning fat is essentially releasing that stored energy for use. The more efficiently you can burn fat, the more fit and healthy you will be; learning how to burn more body fat can help you become healthier overall.

There's a difference between the two, and the distinction is an important one. Burning fat just means that you are burning more stored fat than you are eating, while burning calories refers to burning all types of energy - not just stored calories.

One of the reasons why people tend to favor burning glucose (sugar) as an energy source is that it’s readily available fuel for our cells. When fat hits the bloodstream, a complicated process occurs for it to be available for cell function. For example, the body breaks down and absorbs fats from food we eat, which are then transported through the lymphatic system and bloodstream until they can be broken down into fatty acids by lipases.

As fat-burning increases, calorie-burning decreases. In simple terms, you burn fewer calories when your body burns fat.

Fat-burning is the way to go for weight loss, says exercise physiologist Tom Holland—but theres a catch

When it comes to weight loss, people often focus on their diet. They are interested in how to lose weight fast, how many calories to eat or what foods help or hinder the process. But much of this thinking is focused on losing weight.

If you are trying to lose weight, you probably already know that building muscle is a powerful strategy for shedding pounds and feeling healthier. Most people have heard of the runners high, which comes from a release of endorphins in the brain after long runs or cardio workouts. These endorphins are released along with human growth hormone (HGH) and testosterone. These beneficial hormones naturally mask many aspects of aging and helps rejuvenate your body for quick regeneration. Just enjoying these benefits as part of your fitness routine can also help you burn more fat, lose more weight and build more muscle at the same time.

If youre a fan of long, slow cardio workouts then its time to change it up! Long, slow boring cardio training causes your body to adapt physically and biochemically. It also wrecks your joints, connective tissues and can cause injuries as well. You should have a variety of exercise tools in your gym kit like dumbbells or kettlebells, resistance bands and bodyweight exercises too. You need a plan that alternates between very intense exercise sessions with periods of rest or light exercise. Focus on short grueling exercises that push your heart rate up and use the rest periods to let it come down. A great example of this is running up a set of stairs and then walking back down again before repeating the run up again.

As we quickly approach the fresh air and sunshine of spring, it's time to start thinking about nutrition and fitness, both of which are essential components to a successful running program.

Calories are units of energy that we use to fuel our body and the foods that we eat contain different amounts of calories. Carbohydrates and proteins both provide 4 Kcal of energy per gram, whilst fat provides 9 kcal per gram. You can see some typical examples of how many calories you might find in common foods below. The amount of energy from one other type of food e.g. fats will be higher than that from another e.g. carbohydrates this means 1 gram of fat for example should provide more than twice the energy as carbohydrates does when it is burnt, which is good as not all food types are digested at the same rate in your digestive tract and absorbed into your body at the same rate through your walls. In addition to natural variation between individuals differences such as gender play its part; for instance once digested by enzymes fibre sugars lactose galactose maltose dextrose fructose glucose maltase glucoamylase both dextrinization hydrolysis these molecules break down into smaller ones like starches structurally complex carbohydrates found starch consists long chains made up many small monosaccharides joined together along short section called glycosidic bond then further processes occur starch digestion process body will typically
