Though minimalism sounds like a good idea, it can be hard for many. Their possessions bring them great comfort and joy so getting rid of them can feel devastating. Because of that, many people are turning toward essentialism.
Essentialism is basically about optimizing our life so that we can have the best life ever. It means keeping the things that make us happy while getting rid of the things that don't. Essentialism is different for everyone. Some only need a few objects in order to live happily while others prefer to have some conveniences that will make life better.
So, how can we do this? Here are some tips to reach essentialism in your own way.
When decorating your home, use soothing colors that promote a serene and calm feeling. You should paint your walls light colors that will make you feel happy and calm. Dark colors can be overwhelming to your senses.
You may also want to use light colors throughout your house, including your sheets on your bed, your couches, and the towels that you use (in your kitchen and bathroom). These can all help to keep your home calm.
Keep your bedroom simple. One of the most important things that we need to do is get enough sleep. The best way to do this is by keeping our bedroom simple. It should be an oasis to allow and encourage sleep.
To do this, you need to get rid of all of the clutter and extras in your bedroom. You don't need to have a desk full of papers or your exercise equipment in there. These could keep you up at night. You should remove electronics because this can really cut back on your sleep too.
Make your life as easy and efficient as possible. You should do what you can to make your life as simple as possible. Keep all items off of your bathroom sink, except what you use every day. If you drink coffee every morning, have your coffee pot ready when you wake up. If you exercise right away, make sure your exercise clothes are nearby.
Put down your phones and other electronic devices. Our phones and electronic devices rule our lives. We are constantly answering phone calls and texts, even if we are busy doing other things. We might be enjoying a nice talk with our spouse, but we rush to the phone if someone else calls. We need to put them away and start to live in the moment more.
Contrary to popular belief, essentialism doesn't mean getting rid of personal things in your life. If you like to hang pictures that remind you of your family, you should do so. If you have some items that mean a lot to you, put them around.
However, as you do so, it is important that everything that you put out has a special meaning to you. You don't want to go overboard and clutter up every surface or your home won't feel as calm.
If you are serious about making your life calmer, you may want to look into essentialism. It allows you to keep items that mean a lot to you, as long as you still feel calm.
When decorating, you need to use light colors that are calming. Paint your walls and decorate in shades of pale blue and green. Decoration includes the towels you use and the sheets that you have on your bed. You also need to remove anything out of your bedroom that doesn't promote sleeping. You want to feel calm as you get into bed so that you fall asleep sooner. The bills you have on the table may wake you up in the middle of the night!
