5 Best Summer Workouts for a Summer Body

Here are some fun workouts to try this summer!

By Kevin GardnerPublished 7 years ago 3 min read

The heat of the summer season can feel a bit overwhelming depending on where you live. Instead of hiding from the sun, how about going outside and taking advantage of that heat to help you melt and burn even more fat. Plus, there are some activities you can't really do in the other seasons and so much beautiful scenery outdoors you can see while you are getting your body in shape. Your workouts do not have to be so monotonous, leaving you dreading the next day. By getting out in the sun to do the following five summer workouts, you will see great results and feel inspired to do them often.

High-Intensity Jump Rope

High-Intensity jump rope simply means that you will be jumping rope at a faster pace than normal to speed up the heart rate and burn even more calories. Many people have memories of being a kid and doing jump rope or double dutch during recess time. You can do this with other people and socialize when you're doing your workout. Jumping rope not only burns a crazy amount of calories but it can help increase the prefrontal cortex of the brain which improves memory, thinking skills, and increases chemical levels of dopamine (Jump Rope Gym, n.d.). A high-intensity jump rope workout routine would look as follows.

  • Boxer step - 30 seconds
  • Rest - 10 seconds
  • High knee jumps - 30 Seconds
  • Rest - 10 seconds
  • Jump Rope Jack - 30 seconds
  • Rest - 10 seconds
  • Boxer step - 30 seconds
  • Rest - 1 minute
  • Repeat for a full 15 minutes

Summer Hiking

By this time, all of the leaves should be back on the trees and the flowers should all be fully blossomed. A workout doesn't have to feel like a task. You can simply burn your calories by going for a long walk through amazing terrain with optional trails. Hiking on an incline has several benefits as it engages the leg muscles and integrates some weight training into your routine. So, you'll be surprised when you are toning your muscles in addition to losing weight. According to Stanford University, being in nature can calm anxiety, alleviate stress, and lower risk of depression (National Park Service, n.d.).

Water Aerobics

Swimming pools are always ideal for the summer. Whether you have one at home or go to a local pool, water aerobics is great fun as it doesn't even feel like exercise. If you plan on building a pool this summer, check out custom pools Montgomery. The great thing about water aerobics is that it doesn't put stress on the joints as a long run would. If you already have preexisting joint pains, then this form of exercise is perfect for you. Due to the buoyancy of water, you will burn fewer calories but your muscles will be getting more toned (Barlowe, 2018).

Zumba on the Beach

If you aren't familiar with what Zumba is, it is a customizable dance routine. There are thousands of Zumba routines all over the internet and even Zumba classes you can go take where you will be dancing with others who want to get in shape or simply love dancing. Zumba would classify as cardio, but there are classes that add light weights to their routine depending on the Zumba instructor. Also, depending on where you go to take the class, some instructors have their sessions on the beach.

WashBoard Abs with Planks

Summer is the season to show off your body's definition. Building definition requires that muscle is toned and built through weight training and weight lifting. Essentially, you will definitely feel the burn with the following exercises.

  • bicycle kicks
  • side plank dips
  • Russian twists
  • jackknife
  • crab toe touch

Have fun this summer by incorporating some of the exercises into your routine. Getting fit should be an experience you enjoy and find pleasure in doing. So give these workouts a try.
