10 Easy Ways to Lose Weight in Your 40s

Nobody goes to bed slim expecting to wake up 50 pounds heavier.

The majority of us acquire weight by consuming merely 100 to 200 more calories every day. The goal is to make little modifications in our environment — changes that eliminate 100 to 200 calories per day — so that we gradually modify our eating patterns and lose weight. After all, the ideal diet is the one you're not aware of.

1. GO HALFSIES

There's nothing like eating out to ruin a diet. After all, one delicious meal may constitute the majority of your daily calorie objective. To keep on track, choose smaller amounts from the kids' menu, or cut your food in half once you've ordered it and ask the waitress to box up the rest for you to take home. If your meal is meant to include fries, ask if you may swap a salad instead, even if it means paying an extra $1 or two. Dining out does not have to turn into a diet catastrophe this way!

2. SLOW DOWN AND SAVOR

Because it takes roughly 20 minutes for your brain to notice that your stomach is full, eating too quickly will result in overeating. Take your time if you're attempting to eat less. Place your fork down between bites and chew deeply. You'll be far less prone to overeat and far more likely to shed weight.

3. APPLE SAUCE SUBSTITUTION

When a baking recipe calls for vegetable oil, consider substituting applesauce for half of the oil. It's a simple technique to cut the fat content of your diet.

4. CHOOSE YOUR CARBS WISELY

When you're out to dinner, it's difficult to resist picking something from the breadbasket. Choose a firm roll, a slice of French or Italian bread, a wafer, pita bread, or melba toast if you're trying to reduce weight (or just keep it off). Soft rolls, breadsticks, biscuits, croissants, and muffins have less butter and sugar.

5. PEPPER YOUR DISHES

You can lose weight without lifting a single pound! Cayenne pepper, derived from the plant Capsicum annum, has been shown to not only help you lose weight by raising your body temperature, but also to enhance circulation and decrease cholesterol. Because it is a moderate stimulant, it may also be mixed into hot water with lemon juice as a substitute for coffee.

6. STOP YOUR SWEET TOOTH

There are two approaches to overcoming a sugar tooth (without hitting the fridge). One method is to lay a little bit of salt on your tongue and let it dissolve gradually. The second step is to dissolve roughly a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water, then rinse and spit (do not ingest). The salt or baking soda stimulates saliva production, which reduces your sweet hunger.

7. PUT A CURB ON CRAVINGS

Food cravings can be reduced, according to Chinese medicine specialists, by mastering a simple acupressure technique at the Renzhong point—that small depression beneath your nose and above your top lip. Pinch this place lightly and frequently with your thumb and fingers for approximately a minute. Those Cheetos you had your eye on in the vending machine should no longer be so appealing once you've finished.

8. SATISFY A SWEET TOOTH

Are you trying to lose weight but finding it difficult to resist the urge to eat something sweet? Keep a bunch of grapes in your refrigerator and grab a few when you're hungry. Grapes release sugar fast, making them ideal for appeasing a sweet tooth. If the grapes aren't satisfying you, wait 10 minutes and see how you feel before reaching for the sweets!

9. YES TO CHOCOLATE

If you love chocolate but are trying to lose weight, you might be interested to know that your favorite food might really help you lose weight. Chocolate raises serotonin levels, which can help alleviate depression, tension, and other factors that may cause you to crave more food. What's the catch? You can only have 1.4 ounces each day, ideally first thing in the morning. (However, it's better than nothing!) For the best weight-loss results, doctors recommend 70 percent dark chocolate.

10. LOW-CALORIE SNACKING

What is the simplest method to keep under your diet's daily calorie limit? Snack on low-calorie meals like carrot sticks throughout the day. You won't feel hungry, and you won't consume too many calories.
