Upgrade your house with these 3 simple rules

I wish I knew these sooner...

This year i decided to take my blog to the next level and see if this could be something more than just a hobby. So I applied for the Awin affiliate programme and my first application was for MADE.com. I took this opportunity to share my top 3 tips I swear by every time I want to upgrade my house featuring some of their amazing pieces.

Tip 1: Upgrade your kitchen essentials: This might sound like a weird place to start but trust me. I realised over the years that by refreshing some of your kitchen essentials is going to make a big impact. Getting a new set of plates or cups that you will be using every day or on special occasions will be cool way to uplift your style without breaking the bank. Check out some of my favourite pieces below. The concept behind this tip is in frequency of usage for these objects. When people think of refreshing their interior design they usually focus on certain rooms like the living room and specifically the bigger furniture in these rooms. We usually leave out the objects we use the most. I find that by refreshing your cutlery, plates and glasses, you have a completely new set of objects that you would use all the time. So essentially your entire dining room and kitchen can have some refreshing new items without breaking the bank.

Tip 2: Cushions...just cushions: As simple as it might sound I believe that cushions can really be the key to lifting your space to the next level. When we think of upgrading the interior design in any space most of the times we are focusing on the key larger pieces. But by changing/adding the cushions the room can really take a completely different accent. The idea behind this is similar to the way we use accessories for our outfits. You can add texture, a splash of colour, or even a whole theme or colour story on any space. And the best thing is, it's not a permanent piece of furniture that could be overwhelming. You can even map out the different areas you want to have cushions, and then have multiple cushion covers based on different themes to match your mood. I sometimes go through periods that I need a more minimal look and feel in my living room, so I would use the cushion covers that are more have white and grey tones. But I can easily change that but bringing out some other covers with prints and patterns to brighten up the space. Remember that it's your space and it has to change and evolve based on your needs.

Tip 3: Find that unloved corner and give it its moment: With the current situation I have been working from home for a couple of weeks. I realised that there are a couple of corners that are so underused. Find these corners and add that little extra that will turn them into the main event. I realised that I have been using the same areas over and over again. It was usually the sofa and the dining room as they are the most spacious and bright spots during the day. So I focused on creating a more relaxing areas in the hallway. This is the last thing I see when I am about to go out of the house and the first thing I see when I come back. This area now has a big mirror, and minimal side table and a nice arrangement of vases and candles. This little corner can be anywhere in the house. Find that space that you are not really using and see if there is something you can do in this space. Maybe a statement armchair, a sidetable and floor-lamp. Or it could be just a big cushion, a new rug and a smaller floor-lamp so you can have that quiet space to read a book and relax.

Let me know if you have any other ideas on how to change the look and feel of a room quickly. I hope you enjoy. Also let me know if you would like more content like this from me.
