Things to Do During a Virus Lockdown

When college and work keep you inside your house

Laptops and the internet are truly our besties these days

Life Disrupted

2020. It's supposed to be a year of positive change, right? You just got over your mid-terms while working at a retail job. Spring break comes; you either go out and party like planned; or you open up your availability at your job.

Then your country has declared a national emergency due to a pandemic.

Classes are now online only. Your job will be compensating you for the shifts you were scheduled for. You're probably in your own place, living on your own. Maybe you have roommates, or maybe you're stuck with your parents. They're probably screaming in your ear now, making you want to go book a hotel room, but you know you can't.

So what can you do to keep yourself from going insane?

The Obvious

Do your online classes. Yeah, I know, that's boring, but you know you want that degree. As someone who was a dance major, I'm actually curious how those dance classes are being held. Probably with the use of Skype while you wear onesies?

Anyway, regardless of your degree and how the teachers are conducting things, do your homework.

As for your job, I would suggest you look into freelancing. Put both your talents and degree to use. It wouldn't take the place of your current job, but it wouldn't hurt to have a side job in the meantime.

But I'm Tired of Working!

Okay, so homework is done. You're not getting any freelancing gigs. So now what?

Maybe become a content creator on social media! Figure out what you're into: Books, fashion, makeup, the arts. There's so much to choose from. Instagram is great for the visual stuff; Twitter is good for communication. Maybe even join TikTok, and become famous through there! Maybe do livestreams on Instagram and Facebook!

None of that will get you the coin. So what's the next? What will get you that moola? Doing this Vocal thing is one of them. Another option would be starting a podcast series. Anchor is a good option as you can opt in for sponsorships and monetizations. But beware that this virus may hinder that option. There's YouTube, but they're pretty strict on how you get adsense and such.

But I Want To Have Fun!

So you don't want to put too much effort on social media. That's fine, but you know you don't to be bored either.

If you got the money, you could do online shopping, but only if you got money to burn. And if you got a credit card, try not to use it unless you're willing to go fight with other people at a grocery store.

If you have them, watch movies and TV shows on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. There's YouTube for much shorter videos.

But you're bored from watching so much streaming. You can read books and e-books. You can buy e-books for your devices; or if you want to save money, the public libraries in your town offer free e-books and such for you to borrow for a certain amount of time.

If you really want free reads, and you're into soapy teen dramas set in the 2000s, you can check out my Wattpad series, The One. It's all free for everyone to read. The first two books, Let Me Be The One and The Wanted, are completed; while the third book, Addictive Lies, is currently being updated weekly, though that might change eventually. My username is ImTheGirl.

In Conclusion

In the end, it's up to you on what you want to do with your time. Everyone is in this for a long while. I have no idea when things will ever get back to normal; or maybe everything will be completely different once all this is over.

The only thing anyone can do is stay clean, keep yourself sanitized, and stay indoors. Stay safe and stay healthy.
