Setting a bed is indeed a creative process and there is no right or wrong to it. We will be recommending our current favorite style. Let’s begin with understanding how to layer a bed.

Firstly, let’s discuss what a bedlinen set consists of

A complete Bed Setup usually consists of a fitted or a flat sheet, a bedcover, 2 to 4 pillow shams, a duvet cover, a comforter, throw, bed runner and decorative cushions.

Sheets: Sheets are an essential part of bed linen sets because it is the layer which you will come in contact with the most. So, make sure to buy a premium quality of sheets with high thread count. We usually recommend plain sheets with thread count of 600TC to 1000 TC. Flat sheets you need to tuck in while fitted sheets come with elastic ends so it can be pulled to the corners of the bed.

Bedcover: Here is the layer where you can showcase your personal style. Bedcovers make the look more formal. They come in a variety of materials and designs. Velvets for a rich look, satins for elegance, cottons for comfort, it purely depends on which look matches your choice of aesthetics. They usually have a polyfibre and a lining. They can be quilted in various designs.

The bedcover or bed sheets can come in King Size, Queen Size, Super King Size or it can be custom-made to size with us at Purple Patch Studio.

Duvet Cover Set: This layer is added to the base of the bed for that extra desired warmth. This setting is what you will find in most luxury hotels. It works great as a daybed set. The comforter/ duvet is usually white soft polyfibre quilt covered with a duvet cover which can be made in a preferable choice of cotton or cotton satin fabric. This fabric has to be comfortable as you will be sleeping underneath this layer.

Euroshams, Pillows and Cushions: Right layering of cushions can make all the difference. They are a crucial part of the setting which relates to volume, style, dimension and color of your bedlinen setting. We have depicted a few settings for cushions below:

The crucial step!

Creating a layered bed can be an easy and effective way to add style and comfort to your bedroom. Layering bed linens can also help to create a cohesive look and feel for your space. Here is a step-by-step guide to set your bedlinen for a polished and inviting look.

Setting:

Start with a clean and smooth foundation. Before you begin layering your bedlinens, make sure your mattress is clean and free of any wrinkles or lumps. This will ensure that your linens will lay smoothly and look neat.

Add a fitted sheet that is the correct size for your mattress. This will keep your mattress clean and provide a smooth base for your other linens.

Next, add a flat sheet on top of the fitted sheet. This sheet can be tucked in at the sides and foot of the bed, or left untucked for a more relaxed look.

Layer on a comforter or quilt. Choose a comforter or quilt that is the correct size for your bed and add it on top of the flat sheet. This will add warmth and texture to your bed.

Add a coverlet or bedspread. A coverlet or bedspread is a decorative layer that can be added on top of the comforter or quilt. This will add an extra layer of texture and visual interest to your bed.

To complete the look, add a few decorative pillows to the top of the bed. This can include throw pillows, accent pillows, and even a bolster pillow for added interest.

Once all of your linens are in place, take the time to make the bed. This means pulling the corners of the sheets and comforter tight and fluffing the pillows.

Layering:

When it comes to layering your bed, there are several different options you can try. Some popular choices include:

Using a duvet cover and duvet insert for a layered look that is easy to change out and clean.

Adding a throw blanket at the foot of the bed for an extra layer of warmth and texture.

Incorporating different patterns and textures, such as a patterned comforter and solid-colored sheets for a cohesive look.

Remember, layering your bed is an opportunity to be creative and express your personal style. Experiment with different combinations of sheets, comforters, and pillows to find the perfect look for your bedroom. For a polished bedlinen look which portrays elegance and chic follow these simple steps to layer your cushions.

Start with the a eurosham which is the first layer that goes against the headboard. It also provides the right support.

Then comes the pillows which you sleep on. Place them in front of your shams. You can add multiple layers if required.

There is no exact number for decorative cushions. There are endless ways for their arrangements. The standard and the most basic approach you can follow is:

Minimalist Layering:

This is the basic and the simplest way of layering your bed linen. In a minimalist approach, the first layer consists of two pieces of pillow shams usually sized 18 inch x 27 inch. The second layer consists of 2 pieces of 18 x 18 inch cushions. For the last layer a rectangle cushion of 12x20 inch is added.

Tip: Choose the centerpiece wisely; it serves as a statement piece which can elevate the luxury level of your bedding.

Maximalist Layering:

In the maximalist approach for layering, the first layer consists of two to three pieces of 24 x 24 or 26 x 26 inch euroshams. For the second layer two pieces of pillows sized 18 x 27 inch are placed. Additionally, you can also add a layer of 20x 32 inch pillow shams. The next layer adds the element of texture, color or design to the set, it consists of 2 pieces of 18 x 18 inch cushions. For the fourth layer you can either use 18x18 inch cushions or can add dimension by using 16 inch x 16 inch cushions. For the last layer a rectangle cushion of 12x20 inch is usually preferred. The last layer can be an accent cushion – you can add a pop color, a statement cushion, a heavily embroidered piece, something bling etc.

Tip: It is advisable to stick to the rule of odd numbers- Three, five or seven pillows per bed.

Setting a bed linen is an important part of creating a comfortable and inviting bedroom. Not only does it provide a soft and luxurious feel, but it can also help to create a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. When it comes to layering bed linens, there are several looks you can try. Some popular options include:

The "hotel look" which features crisp white sheets, a white duvet cover, and coordinating white decorative pillows.

The "bohemian look" which features a mix of textures and patterns, such as a patterned comforter and throw pillows in different colors and prints.

The "cozy look" which features a fluffy comforter, a warm throw, and plenty of pillows for snuggling.

By following these tips, you can create a beautiful and comfortable bed that will be the focal point of your bedroom. Remember to experiment with different colors, patterns, and textures to find the perfect look for your space.
