The cabin of my dreams

Serene and lively

Nestled between rolling green hills and a sparkling lake full of color and life, surrounded by trees and natural light, my dream would be a small wooden cabin there. Sitting several meters in the back yard a garden full of vegetables and fruit trees would bring tonight's dinner. A small patio provides the perfect spot to sit and drink a hot cup of coffee or Indian chai. The organic sounds of nature flowing around me bring peace to my home, soul, and mind.

The cabin is warmed and cooled with the help of windmills and solar panels. While using the natural recourses given to me, I can live off the grid and continue to take advantage of things we otherwise take for granted. Large windows allow the sunlight to brighten rooms and help to bring the outdoors inside. Being able to overlook the lake and tree-covered hills while I'm working or relaxing is a dream in itself.

White walls remind me of hospitals, however, for small spaces the white helps to open up the spaces and make it feel larger. With accents of blues and corals, it feels beachy. The nautical decor spotted around the home brings the water to me; either in mermaid style towel hooks or seaside paintings hanging in the wall. There are even compass inspired art and of course the famous anchor which I adore as well.

At this point, let me take you through the house. We will start here in the living room and kitchen which is an open floor plan. Stainless steel appliances and a lot of counter space make up the kitchen. The white spreads into the kitchen, with white cabinetry and sandy colored countertops to help break up the monotony of the white. I'm not a big cook, but I love to bake! A simple coral-colored apartment size oven is perfect for my needs. It is simple but does what I need it to do. The living room is just as simple and quint. I don't require a T.V. so I don't need a lot of wall space or floor space. A simple seating area that can convert into a dining area is just perfect.

I'm huge on bamboo flooring and recycled materials throughout the home. This will not only save on the cost but helps the environment as well. I'd like to get to a point where I do as little damage to our environment as possible and recycled or up-cycled building materials are one way of doing this. Of course, the bamboo flooring is throughout the house, and most of everything else is recycled or reused lumber. This goes for the decor as well.

As you could probably already tell I am comfortable in small spaces, so why would the bathroom be any different? A living-moss bathroom not only makes the bathroom look green and organic, but it is beneficial and forces me to use more eco-friendly soaps and shampoos. A major reason for moss in my bathroom is to help reduce stress and to improve the air quality around me.

This is a 3 bedroom cabin- the master bedroom, an office, and a future nursery, which in the meantime this will be used as extra storage. I am always thinking about the future so I want to be sure that my home can grow with me. Right now I will focus on the master bedroom- mostly because the office is simple, well lit with bookcases, a desk, a comfortable office chair, and overall it is just a basic office.

I've chosen a muted coral lit with fairy lights, to accent one of my bedroom walls, this helps to bring the attention to objects which are more important to me. Pictures of family and friends hang on a fishing net, I love that this adds texture to my wall and gives me something besides a flat wall to look at.

Overall my dream a lake-side cabin, off the grid with a food garden as well as flowers and trees. To be completely self-reliant on me is something that I want. This lifestyle will be challenging especially because for all of my life I have been reliant on the convenience of a grocery store. I am looking forward to making this a reality in the future and learning about myself in the process.
