Steps in Creating More Stops on Google Map

How to Add Maps in Google Map

By Emma AdePublished about a year ago 3 min read

One sure way to organize your trips with Google Maps is to add multiple stops especially when you have a number of places to go. With this action, the application will automatically reroute your next destination with minimal input from your side. This also means you don’t have to enter a new destination manually. This feature is surely a time and energy-saver when visiting friends, family, and places outside your regular routes.

How Multiple Stops Operate in Google Maps

You can add multiple stops on this app via your Android and IOS devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. Make sure the application is set as your default navigator before you do anything else, and remember, the website version may come with some limitations.

You can add a maximum of 9 multiple destinations in Google Maps. The application will direct you based on the order you arrange the stops. It provides estimates of the total duration of walking, driving, and riding but you can’t use the feature when taking public transport.

Once you start the trip, the app will use the turn-by-turn navigation system to guide you without hindering access to other content on the device. You can also add unplanned places to your list and re-arrange it and you can share your direction and location with people to help them track your movements.

You need to re-arrange your destination according to order when using this feature because the navigation system wouldn’t offer a route optimization service. You may also plan your trips to avoid things like highway tolls, and ferries, and the app will plan your trips without these elements.

Remember, the turn-by-turn feature is unavailable on the web version, hence you can create multiple places and then send the direction to your mobile device. You may drop a pin in navigation system if your direction includes difficult-to-find addresses- this can help you spot the addresses in the future. Remember, it is impossible to save your multiple routes and reuse them in the future.

What are the Steps to Adding Multiple Stops in Your Mobile Device’s Google Maps?

You can access your Google Maps via the website on a computer or the app store on your smartphone- the smartphone app version is more convenient than the website version. Once you download the application, you can sign in or sign up if you haven’t registered as a user already. Also, the website version of the navigator may not detect your location when you access it via your smartphone. Once you are on the app, proceed to add multiple stops with the following steps;

Step 1: Open Google Maps on your smartphone

Step 2: Click on “Directions” on the home page and the app will automatically detect your location. If the location detected is inaccurate, you can proceed by tapping on “Your Location”, to change it to the correct option.

Step 3: Tap on “Choose a destination” from the page you are directed to from step 2, then add your first destination or choose from the places you have visited before.

Step 4: There are three dots icons located beside “Your Location” click on this icon and then click on “Add stop”

Step 5: Click on “Choose destination”, to add another stop. You can repeat this step up to 9 times until you reach your limit.

Step 6: You can re-arrange your stops by taping and holding down the drag icon. You can also tap on the “X” icon to remove a stop from your list.

Step 7: Tap on “Done” to save the stops, then select your transportation mode but remember, this feature doesn’t work with public transport.

Step 8: Tap on “Start” to begin your travel with the turn-by-turn navigation.

Conclusion

The steps to using Google Maps through smartphone map are similar to accessing it via a website. In this case, you will have to open your web browser which could be Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Windows Explorer. Go to Google.com/maps. Tap on the “Directions” icon and choose your transport mode before adding your starting point on your location. Add the first destination and then tap on “Add destination” to add up to 9 steps. To share your directions, tap on “Send directions to your phone”. Choose whether to receive the notification via SMS, or email.
