Moringa Tree AKA Horseradish Tree AKA Drumstick Tree

Starting you own plant nursery can be a very lucrative business whether its veggies or landscaping shrubs and trees. Before you get started you are gonna want to do some research first. This post is here to motivate you. There are lots of resources online to learn about growing different types of shrubs and trees. Youtube alone is filled with tons videos that will give you a boost of knowledge on how to grow plants.

Below is a detailed description of how to grow Moringa from seed to a tree. This step by step guide will help you grow this superfood - Moringa Oleifera right in your own back yard.

You're gonna need pots and lots of them. Thirty to Fifty 1 or 5 gallon pots should be a good start depending on the size of the space you have available to use for your small plant nursery. It's a good idea to have both a full sun area and a sparse sun area for different types of plants. Also make sure you have access to a water. If you don't have a hose use a watering can.

Next you're gonna need seeds or cuttings to start growing and propagating your plants. Start by growing the trees and shrubs you typically see in most yards and patios in your neighborhood and through in a few exotic ones just to spice it up a bit. You can also buy and then resell plants that have already started growing. Here are a few tips on how to choose the best plants and where you should buy them.

Choose the Best Plants

Choose the right store! I avoid box store plants like the plague. Instead, find a local smaller nursery where the employees actually know how to care for seedlings and care about giving you the best product!

Find a local grower. Buy directly from the grower if you can. If not then find a nursery that buys from a local grower. You want plants that spent hours on a truck not days! (This is another reason I avoid box store nurseries)

Buy on the right day. Ask your nursery when they get new deliveries and shop that day or the next when the selection of plants will be the best and freshest. Come back often and be picky about what you buy, don’t just get something because its all they have!

In the mean time while your plants are growing make sure you get a license to sell products and charge sales tax in your area.

After your plants have grown to a desirable size and your propagated plants have taken root you are ready to start selling. Here are a few suggestions to help you make your first sales.

Social media

Selling on social media sites like facebook market place is an easy way to get your product seen by people that will potentially buy plants and trees.

Yard Sale

Have a yard sale and place your plants out front with price tags on them. Make sure you give them a spot that lets them standout amongst the rest of the stuff your selling.

Swap Meet market

Rent a booth at your local swap meet and setup your plant displays. This will put your plants in direct line of site of shoppers looking to buy.

If you are willing to put in the work starting a small plant nursery can be like growing money in your back yard or on your patio. The hardest part will be finding the buyers of course. Stay diligent and you will be sure to start making some sells.

Good luck!
