Post-Ramadan Home Reset: A Journey to Reclaim Comfort and Cleanliness
Rediscovering Serenity, One Space at a Time
Hello, dear readers! Today, I’m sharing a heartwarming glimpse into my post-Ramadan home reset journey. Ramadan was a deeply spiritual and rewarding time, but with its blessings came a pause in my regular cleaning routine. Now that the month has passed, it’s time to restore order and coziness to our home, which has inevitably gathered a bit of clutter and chaos.
Join me as I navigate through a day filled with small yet meaningful tasks to get everything back on track. Whether it’s reorganizing the kitchen, tackling stubborn stains, or sprucing up the kids’ spaces, this is more than just a cleaning spree—it’s a way to refresh both the home and the spirit.
A Gentle Start to a Busy Day
The day began on a relaxed note, just as I liked it. Wrapped in my favorite black hoodie—my unofficial cleaning-day uniform—I started with a comforting cup of tea and some crispy rusk. It felt like a small yet significant moment of peace before the busyness unfolded. To add to the cozy vibe, I caught up on my favorite vlogger, Esma. Her new uploads never fail to inspire me, and they gave me the motivation to get started.
Kitchen Refresh: A Clean Slate
The first task of the day was the kitchen. A fresh stock of groceries from Lulu had just arrived, signaling the perfect time to clean and organize. Although I forgot to capture the process on camera, I gave the fridge a thorough cleaning, restocking it with neatly organized essentials. It’s such a satisfying feeling to see a tidy fridge, alhamdulillah!
Next, I prepped a batch of peeled garlic, neatly storing it in an ice cube tray for easy use later. I prefer chopped garlic and ginger over pre-made pastes for their fresh flavor in dishes.
With staples running low, I also whipped up a batch of whole wheat pancakes. It was the perfect opportunity to test my new mini electric pancake maker. While I was skeptical at first, it worked beautifully alongside my stovetop. These fluffy delights were a hit and a reminder of the joy in small kitchen experiments.
Packing Away Ramadan Decor
Ramadan decorations always fill the house with warmth, but it was time to pack them away carefully. I folded up our beautiful canopy, fairy lights, and Ramadan calendars, storing them in a box for next year, inshallah. The kids’ Ramadan-themed books also went into storage, except for the Eid ones, which remain on the shelves for Eid al-Adha.
I also rearranged the furniture, returning the sofa to its original spot. Now, the room feels fresh, cozy, and ready for everyday life again.
Taming the Kitchen Chaos
Ramadan brought unique challenges to the kitchen, with meals prepared at various times to cater to fasting and non-fasting family members. The routine was a whirlwind—from suhoor to school lunches, breakfasts, lunches, and iftar. Alhamdulillah, I’m grateful for the means to provide meals for my family.
One corner of the kitchen, however, needed extra attention—my "hidden shelf" where I stash candies for the kids. With leftover treats from Ramadan and other goodies, the shelf had turned into a chaotic mess. I took everything out, organized it neatly, and ensured the shelf looked tidy and spacious once again.
The top rack of my kitchen cabinet was another trouble spot. Many of my glass jars lacked matching lids, and the clutter was overwhelming. I sorted through everything, finding lids and jars that matched, and stored the rest neatly in a box.
Rearranging Appliances for Better Functionality
One of the most challenging areas in my kitchen was the shelf holding my daily-use appliances. It housed everything from choppers to aluminum foil, making it cluttered and hard to manage. I decided to relocate the appliances to a more suitable spot and reorganized the shelf for better accessibility.
During this cleanup, I came across a box of dates from Medina, which brought back beautiful memories. I set them aside to wash and enjoy later.
Reviving the Baking Section
The baking section in my kitchen hadn’t been touched since my last deep clean a year ago. Over time, it had become quite disorganized. I took everything out, sorted through my collection of baking trays and pans, and neatly arranged the items I use most often. With my air fryer oven now taking center stage, my larger pans are used less frequently, so they were tucked away in favor of smaller ones.
Bedroom Bliss: Tackling Hidden Messes
The bedroom was next on my list. The wardrobe door had developed an unsightly yellow stain, but with a few sprays of a degreaser with bleach, it looked as good as new.
While I had managed to clean most of the room during Ramadan, the bedside table was long overdue for attention. It had become a repository for medicines, many of which had expired. I cleared it all out, vacuumed the surface, and neatly organized the remaining essentials like hand cream.
For expired medicines, I made sure to dispose of them responsibly, which freed up significant space. I also tackled the bottom drawer, which holds my hair styling tools, reorganizing it for easier access.
Sofa and Rug Refresh
With three kids and a love for light-colored furniture, keeping my sofa and rug clean is always a challenge. Luckily, I recently invested in a Hoover Clean Slate upholstery cleaner, and it has been a game-changer.
I started with the sofa, applying the cleaning solution and vacuuming it out, leaving the fabric looking refreshed and spotless. The rug, which had endured its fair share of spills, also got a thorough cleaning, restoring its pristine white appearance.
A Sacred Space for Prayer
Maintaining a serene and clean space for prayer is essential. My prayer mat needed a refresh, so I gave it a gentle wash, ensuring it’s clean and ready for daily prayers.
Wrapping Up with Gratitude
As the day wound down, I reflected on the joy and fulfillment that comes from caring for my home. Every big or small task felt meaningful, and I’m thankful for the energy and means to accomplish them.
