How to create beautiful magick in your craft room!

By Cressida Lavinia VegaPublished 5 years ago 6 min read
My magickal pom poms marinading on my altar. :)

I want to share with you today a practice, art and passion of mine that ties in so many beautiful threads of possibilities into one perfectly fluffy, joy-eliciting pom-pom!

As a law unto myself, most everything I put my energy into I do so with my own unique twist. I am quite adamant about creating my own rules within the laws of the universe and that doesn’t stop at my craft cupboard! Or my altar, for that matter!

As a rainbow witch and eccentric expressionista, I like to bring my art to my magick and my magick to my art. The way this works is simple: where you would usually have a set of physical tools and materials that dance together to create some beautiful end product, here we have an extra material. A metaphysical one. Intent.

Cut, strewn and weaved together with ribbon and lace, our mind lends the third strand as an extension of it’s vision - within each knot and twist a bolt of Will and a dash of magick gets bound in, transforming a previous “end product” into a vehicle, an enchanted carpet, if you will, couriering our spell to fruition.

There are many “Knot Spells” is traditional witchcraft and it didn’t take me long when indulging my pom-pom-making passion to create the link between these little balls of delight and the vast potential for some hocus pocus!

See, esoterically speaking (and frankly, quite literally!) all is Mind. There is no difference between an apparently physical object and my thoughts - both are energy, both are illusions and both have their existence encoded in signature frequencies. The slower the frequency, the denser the matter and vice versa. Think of water: when the molecules vibrate super slowly it turns to ice; when the molecules are exposed to heat (a much faster frequency of energy) and start to agitate, the ice will turn to water. Increase the frequency some more and we have steam, as the molecules bounce off each other so rigorously they start to jet off in all directions - and so on into invisible vapour.

So adding magic to your craft is the ultimate form of mixed media! And yet, no more mystical than a cocktail of ice, water and maybe even a "splash" of that super cool liquid nitrogen for good measure!

Truth is, we all do this anyhow - what is art but intent or feeling expressed through the tangible? I feel incredibly strongly about making far-fetched concepts super accessible and nudging anyone willing to experiment with this short, human life to take back the power of creation into their very own hands. To stop leaning on hand-me-down conditioning to inform their perceived limitations and instead condition their environment and selves to reflect a higher ideal, something beyond that can only come through us alone. To sculpt not just the clay in front of us, but the very fabric of reality itself!

In neuroscience there’s a saying that goes: “What fires together, wires together”, meaning cells that that are stimulated at the same time (say a smell whilst experiencing a strong emotion) will create a synaptic connection between them, making it more likely for one experience to trigger an associative recollection of the other and vice versa. Of course, the more intense the experience or the more repeated, the stronger the connection between them.

So, in witchcraft we use physical objects that have similar vibrational frequencies to our intent and bind them to our mind’s volition, amplifying its power by creating these strong connections in our minds, and our Greater Mind - the physical realm. We believe the same “firing and wiring” happens not just in our brains, but with all things. We can connect with any energy, be it desirable or undesirable. We just have to know the power we possess and how to use it!

So how do I use my beloved pom-poms to harness this cosmic force?! I thought you’d never ask! Have some fun with me and gather the following materials:

  • Colourful organic cotton or ethically harvested wool
  • Scissors (Fiskars - obvs!)
  • Pom pom maker
  • Cleansing smoke stick or salt water
  • Anything that might help you envisage your goal - pictures, affirmations, music, the neighbours cat..!?

First and foremost, we cleanse both the pom pom maker and the wools we want to use with chosen burning herbs or incense blend, to remove any unwanted picked up frequencies that might tarnish the purity of our intent with which we wish to imbue the goods and reset the maker. This is best performed on a New Moon for sowing specific seeds and on a Full Moon for embracing a more general improvement.

Now, if you are familiar with this craft, you’ll know that you have to wrap your chosen wool or string around the pom-pom maker many, many times until the entire reel is covered. This is where you bind in your Will. You choose your intended outcome, be it health, a specific job, abundance or a home and then you make it crystal clear in your mind.

Once the vision or sensation is clear, you amplify the feeling of it being realised, what it's like living that now and you allow yourself to become truly flooded with gratitude, wrapping your vision in that thanks and love. Now that you and your desire are One it’s time to weave it into the physical!

Holding the vision and feeling clearly, pour it all deep into your wool envisioning the essence becoming bound within the tresses of your yarn as you wind it round and round, packing in that quanta of potential, locking it in and feeling the reassurance of each layer strapping it more and more securely to this physical realm.

Once it is all set, spend a few minutes just holding the bundle in your hands and transferring all your love, gratitude, energy and intention into it.

Now for the funnest part! You grab your best scissors (Fiskars, duh!) give them a cleanse with smoke or salt water and prepare to make your CUT! As you hold your enviable snippers, whisper to them:

“By the power of the Queen of Swords, I cut through all impediments to my Will realising and release the potent energy of my bound intention to radiate out into the ethers and invoke my request in the best and highest way for all and so it is.”

As you chop round, feel the limitations being cut through and the power of your intention being freed to pulsate in the quantum field!

Lastly, you cut a final piece of string to tie the loose strands together and create your magick pom pom! This bit is critical to keeping the energy of your intention in your pom pom so that it can keep radiating your Will out into the Universe! State the following, or similar, over your strand and then proceed to tie it in three knots, securing the loose bundle.

“By the power of 3 x 3 I ask this string to bind in the core essence of my Will, keep it and hold it strong until my wish has come to me. So mote it be and so it is.”

Now you have your gorgeous little ball of magick! I recommend you then hang this up somewhere you can see it frequently to remind you of your dreams coming to you and feel its power! Leave it out overnight to recharge under the full moons and enjoy!!

As with anything, please use your own intuition to gauge what feels most fun and inspiring to you. I like to wear some of my magick pom poms as earrings or in a necklace to magnetise my desires to me on the go, or bring me positive energy for an interview or exam. The options are endless, as are the combination of jolly colours that you can choose in correspondence with your specific intention!

The most important thing, always, is that you have fun with it! There's no right or wrong way, only YOUR way.

Some of my most potent spells get stored in my giant bell jar (as pictured) where I can charge them all at once and do a tonne more hocus pocus with them! Once they manifest, I hang them up on a tree in my garden, give thanks and let the birds use the threads for their nests. And so the circle of life is complete!

So what are you waiting for? Give it a go! After all, 'Chance is but a name for Law not recognized' (The Kybalion) - so why not get intentional and start experimenting!

Hope you found this interesting or helpful and enjoy performing your very pom pom sorcery!
