Keeping It Together!
The Life of a Freelancer during Covid-19

For many freelancers life in it of itself is a very difficult journey, trying to navigate clients, payments, and the next job, and the cycle repeats itself continuously. These emotions are only heightened due to this horrible pandemic that has taken the globe by storm. As a freelancer (Software Engineer, Data Analyst, Graphic Designer) Upwork.com has been my go to service of choice, for finding new clients, and staying on top of my deadlines. However this lifestyle alone can bring on many variables that can contribute to anxiety, depression, and a state daily worry and pressure.
I have put together a few things that I find help me tremendously in my daily process of "keep it together".
Firstly I find it imperative that i keep my daily routine, whatever that may be, either getting up and making my coffee, or checking my emails, and banking accounts, I feel it is very important to to "stay on the path" as I call it. When I find myself deviating from "the path", I find my day being in a total and complete state of disarray. I forget to do certain special assignments or find myself running late on certain assignments.
Taking time for myself!, although I love the path that I have chosen, as I've stated prior just being a freelancer can bring on its own array of daily triggers. I am an avid defender of taking some time for yourself!. I find that at times if I do not take my scheduled breaks my brain begins to enter a state of disarray and confusion. Weather it is 20-45 I NEED to have time for myself to decompress, I might just watch a YouTube video on a topic that I've been researching on my own, or it might be some other client who's work i find very interesting and fun.
Health!, maintaining a healthy schedule will fall short if you're also not maintaining your physical health as well. At times we freelancers spend so much time behind the computer screen, that we forget to eat the correct foods, or even take a walk outside. While maintaining a lifestyle in which you do not want to be told what to do and when to do it (hence the name freelancer), it is very important that we stay on top of all these things and try to keep ourselves "on the path" as I call it.
It is also very important that we protect ourselves daily from negative people and negative conversations. People have a tendency to unload their issues in their personal lives on others to feel a sense of relief, it is very important that we guard ourselves from others and know when to let people know that we're not interested in their drama or their negativity. I find that real friends will understand your brash and focused attempt to keeping yourself sane, especially in these troubling times. It also works the same way on the other end as well, as we can become the ones who would like to unload our troubles on others, not understanding that even though we're feeling good to get certain pressures off of us, however it can sometimes bring others down, and it turn ruin our relationships in the long run, as others might not feel as secure with telling us that their not into the negativity. It's very important to keep these factors in mind as we navigate through our daily lives.
Remember! Keep your eyes on the ball!, this isn't an easy thing to do however I feel it is so worth it. In order for our continued success, we must protect ourselves from negative forces and negative energies that can bring us to a stand still.
