Cutting up the firewood, calling in for the water heater and thermostat repairs, pulling out the woollens, dusting up the fireplace, and now we are ready for the winter chill to hit us. Well, that sounds like a plan to survive the frosty winters, but guess what? The firewood will burn out, the thermostat will only heat up that one little corner of the house like always, and woollens will not feel enough when you are sitting at the dining table in a cold house.

There must be a better way to beat the cold, and stay warm and cozy inside your home. And there is! Here are some simple tricks, and ideas to invest in, so that you can keep your home warm and cozy.

Insulate the electric outlets of your house.

There are hundreds of ways that heat can escape your home, leaving you cold in the winters. To remedy this, it is very important to pull up some effective insulations. The most common places for the heat to escape are the electrical outlets installed on the exterior walls of your house. So if you put your hand against any outlet and you can feel a gush of air, know that this is where you are losing all your radiator heat (and money) from, and it is important to insulate it.

Rethink the insulation on your roof.

It does not matter how high you set the temperature of your radiator, if your roof is poorly insulated, it will not help in trapping the heat inside, and you will end up with a mammoth of an electric bill. So while you still have time to switch the radiator on, get a consultation for insulating your ceiling or roof, with the right kind of technique and material according to your house.

Install floor heating systems.

From the living room, to kitchen, to bathroom, heating can be done very easily and effectively, with the right technology in place. In fact, every corner of your house can be evenly and perfectly heated, if you choose a floor heating system instead of a traditional radiator, which causes cold spots in the house. These solutions are safer, cost-efficient, require much less maintenance, and work way better than almost all other methods of heating.

Go for heating controls.

These will not only give you control over the heating, but also save you some money on your electric bills. These heating controls are installed to be regulated from your smartphone, with an easy application. So you can set the timer for the heating system to get running, when you are leaving from the office and come home to a warm and cozy atmosphere. Similarly, you can set the time to switch off the heating when you leave the house.

Keep the doors and windows maintained.

The biggest outlet for the heat from the house are the doors and the windows, even when they are closed. So if it has been a long time since you last checked them, now is the time to call the maintenance service. Or you can pull off a DIY and add whether stripping or chalk to get the leaks sealed in your doors and windows. You can also check for leaks around the chimney, and keep the flue shut when it is not being used. It will also help you to replace the screens on doors and windows with storm doors and windows.

Switch on the fan.

It might sound counter-intuitive, but it is simple science. Since warm air is lighter, it tends to settle near the ceiling of our homes, leaving the living space colder. So powering up the fan at the lowest speed in the opposite direction of rotation (clockwise) can circulate that warm air downwards and throughout the room, to keep your home cozy.

Winters can be harsh on your family and wallet alike, but with these simple and careful steps, you can save both. These ingenious ways will keep you warm without losing much heat. So do not worry about being cold, prepare your home better, invest in the right technology, and live comfortably without burning a hole in your pocket.
